Prahlad Seshadri Mask
I made a mask using paper clay as base, and using tools, shaped it into the relevant mask with certain external features. Then, after applying a primer, using paints, I painted the mask, adding some more features along the way.
Supplies
Paper clay, clay tools, a primer, and paint set.
Forming the General Shape
First, the shape of the mask is to be ascertained. To do this, I used crumpled newspaper to create a mount on which the mask could be shaped.
Shaping
Now that the mount was ready, I used paper clay to shape the mask externally, using clay tools to create layers(like for the nose, mouth and the headgear) and to further shape its outline.
Adding Eyes and Smoothening
I used the tools and water to smoother out cracked and coarse parts of the surface. I also made holes for the eyes by removing clay at the relevant points.
Applying Primer
Before painting, primer needs to be applied, which provides a stable texture for painting.
Painting
I painted the mask with the colors of my choice, with color contrasts and combinations that blended well.
Finishing Touches
I added some features around they eyes and modified the lips, giving it an aesthetic tribal look. The mask is now ready!
