Potato Printed Kurti

There is nothing more fun than getting some paint out and doing the vegetable painting. And the fun just gets double when you got to paint your own dress.

So today, I'm showing you how I stitched my own dress(Kurti), and Potato print it with my favorite tribal print – the easy way!

For making Kurti(Medium Length). We'll Need:

• A large Potato
• Kitchen knife
• Black fabric paint
• A pencil or marker pen
• Paintbrush
• Scissor
• Cloth Piece, Black (2 meters), Golden(1/2 meter), pink(5x4 inch piece)
• Measuring tape
• any dress(Kurti) that fits you
• Sewing machine
• Sewing Needle
• Black Sewing thread

First, cut the potato in half. On one of the pieces, draw two parallel lines (1cm apart) on the potato. Draw triangles between these parallel lines. Cut around the triangle shape, leaving the Zig-Zag a design raised on the surface of the potato.

Now take the other half of the potato and makes two congruent triangles opposite to each other. Cut it using a knife to form a Triangle Block.

Similarly, draw a circle on a potato and cut around the circle to get a raised circle for the Head Block of the figure.

• Grab a fitting Kurti and fold it in half horizontally and lay it over the fabric also folded horizontally in half.
• Lay them on a flat surface and carefully mark the outline of the Kurti on the cloth using marking chalk.
• Cut the fabric along the chalk mark.
• Unfold the fabric. We will have two symmetric fabric pieces.

• For accurate placing of the golden patch on the fabric, mark a center line on both the fabric and the patch.
• Place the patch over the fabric so that both their centerline overlaps. Secure both the pieces together firmly with raw stitching.
• Since I'm making a neck of dimensions 6 x 5 inches for my Kurti, for marking width, mark 2.5 inches in either side of the centerline. Also, mark 6 inches from the top. Trace the points and make a rectangle of sides 5 by 6 inches.
• Now sew the patch and cloth (Kurti) on the marking lines.
• Now mark it 1cm in, Cut the fabric along the chalk mark.
• Flip the patche and fold it. The neck is ready.

• For accurately stamping, draw a line 1 cm away, along the border on the golden patch.
• Take the Zig-Zag block, dip the raised part of the potato in color, and stamp it firmly along the border.
• Use a painting brush for any touchups.

Now let's turn our attention to the center.

• Start with drawing an arch on the patch near the upper part.
• Stamp 5 or 6 figures along the curved line using a triangle block.
• Using the circle block, make the head and waist of the figure.
• Use a fine paintbrush to make thin legs and head to give the traditional "Warli" painting look.
• For decoration make thin branches and leaves at the corner line.

For accurate placing of the pink cloth patch on the fabric, mark a center line on both the fabric and the patch.

• Place the patch over the fabric so that both their centerline overlaps. Secure both the pieces together firmly with raw stitching. Since I'm making a back of the Kurti of dimensions 5 x 4 inches, for marking width, mark 2.5 inches in either side of the centerline. Also, mark 6 inches from the top.
• Trace the points and make a rectangle of sides 5 by 6 inches. Curve the edges a little to make a round neck.
• Now sew the patch and cloth (Kurti) on the marking lines.
• Now mark it 1cm in, Cut the fabric along the chalk mark.
• Flip the patche and fold it.
• The Back of the Kurti is ready.

• For sleeves fold the cloth twice it should have 4 layers.
• Mark it using Kurti according to the size of the shoulder and according to Kurti.
• Now according to the length of hand mark the sleeves. Cut them you should have two sleeves.
• Fold the sleeves on the end as marked with orange color above in the images.
• Stich them together (sleeves a Kurti as in the images above).
• Now stich the sleeves on the blue marked lines.

For the final Stitching and Sewing, place both Kurti's piece on one another. As you can see in the image and stich it along the blue makings.
Now fold the Kurti polar inside as marked in the images with orange color. Fold both the Polar and sew them together.
