Potato Cutter
Are you sick and tired of cutting potatoes with a knife? Aren't you able to cut equal pieces?
I am bringing you the POTATO CUTTER, with this amazing device you can cut your perfect french fries it a quick, easy way.
The potato cutter has 6 different measurements to choose (from 1mm to 2cm).
You can also cut tomatoes, apples, zucchini and more,...
Besides this potato cutter include a special handle that allows you to wash the blade without any danger and a drawer to save the blades.
Not to forget it occupies almost no space as it is foldable.
Please be careful with the blade, do not touch it and do not let kids cut veggies with it (the higher the blade is the most dangerous it is, so again be careful)
Supplies
- PLA
- Blade (one or more)
- 1 Spring (4mm diameter and 16 mm long)
- 3d Printer
- SuperGlue
- Potatoes
- Hot Glue Pistol
Version 2.0
Almost a year ago I made the first potato cutter of wood.
As you can see the concept, it's mostly the same. However the blade didn't grab as well as I wanted to. The V1 is much more bigger and instead of a small drawer for the blades, it has a huge box. When it was about cutting the plank was not pretty flap (hinge were stuck in the plank), problem that I solved in the V2. And of course the material is pretty different.
Designing & How It Works
I used 360 fusion to design it.
The extremes of the boards are the hinges, and they are in there is no lump on the board.
The hinges are designed to not turn more than 90ยบ. Inside the central hinge is the hole of the drawer that save the blades, that makes the board a little thicker, but all in all save space by saving the blades.
The green pieces you can see in the image are the ones that hold the blade and prevent it to move, they have 6 different holes for the blade so you can choose from a variety of sizes.
Additionally the red cylinder is a reinforcement that apart from preventing the blade moving in the axle x, it does not allow that blade to move of the axle y, because it covers the hole of the blade. You must take off the red stick when you want to introduce and take off a blade.
There is a hole for the special handle (grey) to wash the blade.
3D Printing
I have also uploaded the files to thingiverse I am leaving the files:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4588973
You have to print the cylinder 4 times.

How to Assemble It
The purple pieces are the blades.
You should just stick the green pieces with the central hinge and the puzzle of the central hinges (the puzzle it is not shown on the video).
For the washing handle (piece in grey), you just have to introduce the spring in the big cylinder hole and add some super glue.
How to Use It
A part of the animate video it is explained on the fake commercial.
Washing Handle for the Blade
As I have said before the potato cutter includes a washing handle for the blade.
- Push
- Introduce the blade
- Release
When you push the spring (1) the lower part of the big rectangle has a little cylinder in the middle, one the blade is introduced and the spring release that cylinder is filling the blade circle hole and that prevent the blade to move or fall.
To take out the blade:
- Push
- Take out the blade
- Release
You should also wash the entire device.
Nonstick Base
Add silicon on the base to make the potato cutter nonstick.
It is not shown in the image, but silicon should be added also in the extreme pieces.
It Is Cocking Time!!!
Now you can cut perfect french fries.
I hope you enjoy reading it the same I enjoyed designing the potato cutter.
