HARRY POTTER TRAVELLING WIZARDRY KIT

Imagine having your very own Harry Potter Travelling Wizardry Kit, to carry in your pocket. Everywhere you go, you could bring with you (from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowlings)…”The Deathly Hallows…..an unbeatable wand, (The Elder Wand); a (Resurrection) stone to bring the dead to life; and a cloak of invisibility.”

Sadly the cloak of invisibility won’t fit into an Altoids container. However, ancient Mystics believed that if you carried a piece of cat’s eye, it could make you invisible at your will. I have included a cat’s eye stone in my container for this purpose.

Gather your supplies:

. Altoids tin

. Mod Podge or something similar

. brush to paint the Mod Podge onto the tin

. paper to cover the Altoids tin

. pair of disposable restaurant take-out style chop sticks

. small wood block, for sanding

. piece of 220 sandpaper to fit around the block

. 1 – 8 1/2 “ x 11” sheet of paper

. stapler

. scissors

. exacto knife or box cutter

. cat’s eye stone

. smooth, flat, oval stone for the “Resurrection Stone” (will also be used as a “Worry Stone”).....a stone slightly bigger than the size of a quarter, but slightly oval shaped. It should feel comfortable to hold it in your hand, between your thumb and forefinger, and be easy to slide your thumb back and forth over the stone, gently rubbing it.

The Altoids Tin

. Take the paper that you have chosen to cover your tin with. Place it upside down and trace the outline of the tin onto the back of the paper. Repeat, so you have a piece for the top and the bottom of the tin.

. Cut out the two outlined pieces. I would suggest cutting inside of the lines, so there are no bits of paper overhanging the edges of the tin, when you Mod Podge it on.

. Apply a light film of Mod Podge onto one side of the tin.

. Place your paper onto the area and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.

. When dry to touch, repeat this process on the other side of the tin, (being careful not to disturb your handiwork on the first side.)

. Let the tin sit until both sides are dry to touch, then give both sides another light layer of Mod Podge.

. When dry, lightly sand any rough spots.

The Travelling Elder Wand

. open the pack of chop sticks and snap them apart, if joined at the top, as these ones were.

. measure the length of your Altoids tin

. mark that measurement onto one of the chop sticks, measuring from the pointed end of the stick

. cut the chop stick along the mark with a box cutter or exacto type of knife

. cover your block of wood with the sand paper

. gently sand the rough edge of the chop stick, until smooth

. to make a second wand, use the other half of the chop stick and sand the rough end to a slight point. You may also file the square end off, if you like.

. I made a second wand, with a gold band at the top, and have used it in this kit, for illustration purposes.

. If you wish, you can Mod Podge a piece of paper or tape around the end of The Wand, to personalize it

The Book of Spells

The Book of Spells…a wee tome in which to note your deepest, darkest secrets, potions and spells.

. Fold an 8 ½” x 11” paper in half, so it is 8 ½” x 5 ½” and cut closely along the folded edge to make two pieces of paper
. take those two pieces of paper and fold each in half again, so they are 8 1/2 “x 2 ¾” and again cut closely along the folds

. fold in half once more and cut along the folds

. collect all of the pieces and fold in half the opposite way, to form a book

. cut a piece of decorative paper for the cover, slightly larger than the books pages and fold it in half
. place all together in book format and staple together

. label as Book of Spells, or whatever you’d like

The Resurrection Stone, Worry Stone and Cat's Eye Stone

DSC_2533.jpg

The Resurrection Stone/Worry Stone

. find a smooth, flat, oval stone for the Resurrection Stone/Worry Stone – should be slightly bigger than the size of a quarter, but slightly oval shaped. It should feel comfortable to hold it in your hand, between your thumb and forefinger, and be easy to slide your thumb back and forth over the stone, gently rubbing it.

. Do NOT shellac or coat the stone in anything, as a coating of any kind will hinder the ability of the stones’ energy to connect to your energy.

. The Resurrection Stone allows the older to bring back dead loved ones, in a semi-physical form and communicate with them.

Worry Stone

. Rub the worry stone between your thumb and fingers while releasing your worries, fears and anxieties into the stone, thereby ridding yourself of these feelings.

Cat’s Eye Stone

. Ancient Mystics believed that if you carried a piece of cat’s eye, it could make you invisible at your will.
