Pinecone Tree Decoration

While out hiking we came across numerous beautiful pinecones. After collecting quite a few we decided to turn them into decorations for Christmas (around our house and gifts). These pinecone trees are easy to make and add a warm, woodsy touch to your holiday décor.

Make the Cone

Cut open a cereal box so that it is flat. Roll from one corner to create a cone shape. Tape together and cut off excess cardboard. Cut the bottom so it sits flat.

Cut Off the Pinecone Scales

Using sharp scissors cut off each scale from the peduncle (the center of the pinecone).

Glue

Using hot glue, glue scales of pinecones to the cardboard cone. Glue rows all the way up the cone until all of the cardboard is covered. Place a small grouping of the pinecone in the tip of the cone and secure with a small amount of hot glue to finish off the tree. Add your beautiful tree to your home holiday décor or wrap it carefully for a gift.

Note: You can also spray paint the entire tree (gold, silver or other color of your liking). Add a small amount of glitter on the ends using mod podge. We decided to keep our trees 'rustic' looking. Your choice - enjoy!
