Pinball Gumball Machine!
Our group made an interactive gum ball machine that allows the player to gain points based off of where the ball hits sensors. If the sensors are hit enough times, the player is rewarded another chance at the game for free!
Supplies
The supplies we used were:
- Wood
- Cardboard
- Wiring
- Flippers
- Rubber Bands
- Nails
- Screws
- Wood glue
- Arduino mega
- IR Sensors
- Servo Motors
- Breadboard
Brainstorming/Pre-Manufacturing
1.) Our group started brainstorming ideas and thought how to make the gum ball machine more interesting that just a gravity-driven mechanism. We eventually landed on the idea of making an interactive gum ball machine that uses the gum ball as the pin ball and has obstacles.
2.) Next, we took matters to the notebooks and drew a legitimate rough draft of what the group planned to do.
Started Coding
3.) The flippers had to be coded as well as the gum ball release mechanism and that was next up on the docket. Max and Logan took on the work of using various arduino motors, wiring, and sensors and made the technology side of the project come to life.

Engraving
4.) After the technology side of the project was done, Victoria and Jayla worked on the engraving section of of the box. We carved in the words, "Haunted Mansion" in order to stay on theme and also add the foreboding feeling we were trying to give off. Unfortunately we don't have pictures of this step because of class change and etc.
Assembly
5.) Finally after much testing and going back and editing things, it is time to actually assemble the box. At this point we added the nails and rubber bands to allow the ball to bounce and move around, a ramp to add some excitement, flippers to hit the ball, and final touches on sensors.
FINAL PRODUCT
6.) The last step was to mount the headboard onto the box and once that was done, we were finished!
