I made this peppermint candy throw quilt for the first time.

Supplies

cotton fabric in your choice of color, I chose white. I got 1 1/2 yards, with the same amount for the back of the quilt, I also chose white for the back. The total quilt size is 50x65 inches. You will need two yards of fabric for your peppermint I chose the traditional red and white peppermint candy. I also bought a red with tiny white striped fabric for the stripes between each quilt block to give it contrast. Because I am not a person who can sew small edges, I bought fusible webbing for the pieces of my candy pattern to make it easier for me to iron the edges before sewing them. Red thread or white thread depending on your choice. Then you need to draw your candy pattern if you are someone who doesn't want to draw you can find pattern on the internet. I used plain red fabric for the edge of the finished quilt. Batting to put between the top piece and back of your quilt.

making the pattern of your quilt. cut the pieces for your peppermint. I used six per circle.

After you cut all the circles and the squares to make your quilt block, you start preparing the pieces to sew. I used fusible webbing to hold the seams down to make it easier to sew. After you iron the fusible webbing peel the back of it off before sewing. I then sewed each red peppermint piece in a pinwheel design onto the white circle. I used a zigzag to sew the pieces on. when finished sewing the circle onto the quilt block.

Time to Assemble Your Quilt

once you have all of your quilt blocks finished you can now assemble your blocks however you want. I used a red and white striped fabric cut into strips to put between each block and alternated with plain white blocks to give it some separation between blocks. The sizes of your quilt block, peppermint candies will be your choice and it will determine the size quilt I made a throw or some people call it a lap quilt.

Finishing Your Quilt

Now that you have sewn your blocks together it's time to put the quilt together you need to put some batting in between your top piece and your back piece cut to the size of you quilt give yourself 1/4 seam allowance for sewing. again, the batting is your choice it comes in various materials and different thickness, the thicker it is the harder to put together. once you put the top the batting and the back together sew them along the whole quilt. now you add a border, again your choice but I used a plain red fabric. You can machine sew the border to the quilt, or you can hand sew it like I chose to do. Fold the border fabric to match the other side make sure you give it a seam, so it doesn't fray then sew the border on.
