I made a simple process of making paper scrap collages! I found that when working with paper, I made a lot of scraps. From doodled on paper, or old notebook pages, to random leftover paper shapes, I made a mess. With the project, you can use up your paper scraps that are just laying around, into a fun, and efficient project that produces a product I hope will make you happy! Enjoy!

  • Scraps (these can be anything, leftover cut up construction paper, scribbled on post it notes, etc.)
  • 1 sheet of paper for background (I used construction paper, but you can use any kind)
  • Scissors
  • a pencil or other writing utensil
  • white glue

Cutting the Pieces

Cut out shapes from your scrap paper. These shapes can be anything, big or small, long or short. If your pieces are already small enough to your taste, skip this step.

Think of how you will put your pieces, and lay down a base layer of glue in spots where you want your base shapes to go.

Gluing Down Your Base Layer

Put down your shapes, and add more glue where needed. Make sure to put glue under all loose edges of your shapes.

Plan out your second layer. Put more glue around where you want the second layer of shapes to be. Then when you are ready, put down the second layer of shapes.

Layer paper until you are satisfied with the design. Try to fill blank space, by layering more shapes on top of the gaps.

Drying

Leave your collage to dry for a couple of hours. This can also be done overnight if wanted.

Finishing Touches

Add details with your pencil or other writing utensil. This can be anything. You could try a small drawing, or squiggles, and spirals like me. This step can also be stepped if you don’t want to add anything. (The black circles show where I added detail) Congratulations! You just cleaned up your house, and hopefully made something you were proud of!
