Paper Flower, Home Decor
Hey all,
Thanks for taking time to read through my instructable. While i wanted to make some bright and attractive home decor with affordable material cost like paper, i would like to share the instructions of its making through this instructables.
And at the end of this tutorial, if the making in this instructable has impressed you - Do vote for me :)
Supplies
Colour sheets, preferably bright and bold colours
Scissor
Pencil
Ruler
Eraser
Thin metal strings
Popsicle stick
Glue
Frame, here i have used (30x30x30x30)cms
Thick cardboard
Duct tape
Make a Basic Design
Lets draw a basic and rough design to create a overall frame for the paper flower bunch, we gonna make. However, this may not be the exact. As the work progress, we may have to alter for better results.
Ready the Frame and Base
For the base i used a thick black chart paper wrapped onto a thick cardboard block cut in the shape of the frame.
Using duct tape i secured the cardboard block and chart paper as well. And attached the base to the frame with duct tape, at the backside of the frame.
Sunflower : Making of Seed Head & Disk Florets
We require orange and black colour sheets for the seeds bunch, as closely related to the real flower for reference as in the image.
To a 20 cm length and 4 cm wide black coloured paper strips, i folded it at the centre(across the length) and made thin cuts(at the folded side). I rolled up the thin strips with cuts and attached one strip with the another and continued until i get a required size for the flower.
To a 20 cm length and 4 cm wide orange colour paper strips, i made a straight line(with pencil) across the length to make a mark to the length i should cut the paper. Then i folded the strip across the length and started to cut in a triangle like pattern(as in the picture). We can also multi fold it, so that we can do various paper cuts at the same time.
Now using a Popsicle stick i gentle pressed upwardly so that the triangle like pattern are slightly tilted upward. Applying glue(below the line marking with pencil) now these orange paper strips were wrapped around the black seed bunch prepared earlier.
I used two orange paper strips, with triangle pattern facing toward the black part and one orange paper strip facing the other side, so that their arrangement is similar to that of disk florets.
Sunflower : Making of Ray Florets
We require bright yellow colour paper strips of equal length. Here i have used 20 cm x 4 cm paper strips.
I made a line across the length to make partition for the glue part and the florets. And did a outline of the florets with pencil over one side of the strip(as in the picture).
I multi-folded it, so that one time cut across the outline creates many florets at a time.
With each of the floret, i made a small cut near the glue line and gently folded the side part towards the florets side. With such pressed side, i stick it to the florets part.
Now with the ray florets made ready these were stick to the side of the disk floret with glue applied below the lines at the ray florets. First and second row were made in alternative criss-cross patterns.

Making of Chrysanthemum
For the chrysanthemum(not exactly, but similar to that of the shape and texture), i used 4 cm sky blue colour strip (ray flower) and 2 cm bright yellow strip (disk flower). I carefully cut at one side of the paper strips and attached the yellow to the blue. Then i rolled up from the yellow to the blue and applied glue across the rolling.

Anemone Flower : Making of Petals
I have a salmon pink(really pleasant colour!!!), so wanted to make a flower in big size with it. Here i have made a similar looking of Anemone flower with it. Petals will be in salmon pink and anthers in brown.
Process:
With equal sized paper strips (4 cm x 4 cm), i drew the petals shape on the side. And cut them across the outline.
Using metal string, i gently curled it upwardly. Here for one side, it is upwardly and for the other side, downward.
Then i made a small cut at the centre of each petals at the bottom.
Applied glued at the centre cut, and pressed one part onto the another. This will give a slightly curved structure.
Likewise, prepared smaller petals in decreasing size order and a circular paper to stick the petals on top of it.

Lavender Flower : Making of Peduncle
For the peduncle, i plan to use metal strings and wrap a light green colour crepe paper on top of it. And then twist it across the peduncle.
Lavender Flower : Making of the Spike(calyx/whorl)
With a 20 cm x 4 cm lavender colour paper strip i cut across the length leaving a part to glue. Then i attached these paper strips in a slanting manner to the peduncle.
And for the leaf, i used the same green colour crepe paper.

Red Rose : Making of Petals
The red rose with a full bunch of petals, is made with red coloured crepe paper to give that curled pattern to the flower.
Process:
Thin strip of crepe paper is folded in equal size.
Then they are cut in equal parts, with rounded sides.
Using metal string, each petal in rolled over it and crushed to the centre from both the sides.
The crushed petals are opened up and made a bowl like deep at the inner side.
Red Rose : Attaching Petals
Red Rose : Making of Stamen
Red Rose : Arranging Petals and Stamen
Now, we attach the stamen to the petals (which were attached in a chain pattern earlier). At the last, few petals were added at the bottom of the flower bunch rolled up over the stamen.
As the crepe paper is so delicate to handle, we may have to use it carefully. Else it gets crushed and not easy to open it again. I used a skewer stick to do some adjustments at the end.

Pink and Orange Rose
For the pink and orange rose making, you may refer to one of my previous instructable as below:

Daisy Flower : Making of Petals
For the pattern, i drew lines over the colour sheets and cut across the outline. Here i have created two different patterns.
Daisy Flower : Layering the Petals
And to make the daisy little deeper at the inside, i cut out one of the petal and attached it on to top of the next petals. With three layers made, i stacked it one on top of another.

Leaf Patterns
As i wanted more realistic look to the frame art, i added few leaves here and there. Every leaf pattern were hand drawn and cut across the outline.
Tiny Butterflies, Adding More to the Ecosystem
As the earlier butterfly i made is found too big to the frame, i changed to tiny one in yellow + blue wings.

Bonus : Clitoria Ternatea (Asian Pigeonwings / Butterfly Pea / Cordofan Pea / Darwin Pea)
I have been enjoying to watch this beautiful flower blooming, in my small garden everyday! I have the Clitoria Ternatea both in Blue and White colour. So as a matter of addicted to its beauty, i wanted to replicate a white sangu poo(termed in tamil language across south india) here with this tutorial.
So lets start making a reel Clitoria Ternatea (white) with papers.
