I made a fishing rod stand out of pallets and scraps that I had available in the school shop. I made this without precise plans or measurements, but there will be certain things that you must do, in bold, if you want the best end results.

Supplies

  • Drill press
  • Miter Saw
  • Measuring tape/ yard stick
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver or drill
  • Writing tool

Garthering Material and Making Measurements

First, you get 2 pieces of wood that are of equal length for that sides and 3 pieces of wood of equal length for the area of to hold the rod and to stabilize it. Optional: Get 2 short pieces for when you make the stand leaning. Use the miter saw and measuring tape to make it equal length and then mark them for where you are going to drill and screw in the pieces of wood. (I recommend when you measure where you want to make the holes for the drill press, to count how many rods you want and divide that by the length of the piece of wood).

Drilling and Cutting Holes Into the Boards

Measure how far you want to go with the drill so you don't go through on the bottom piece of wood and only drill half way into the top piece of wood as shown in the 2nd picture above. When drilling through the top piece, make sure that you drill through it hard so it does not cause weird scrap patterns in the board like mine. Also don't drill through your top piece without a bottom wood to keep the drill press table from breaking. Go to your miter saw and cut 10 or 15 degrees from the bottom of the 2 side boards so you can screw the 2 short boards for the stand to lean on.

Putting the Boards Together

Now you start screwing the 4 main pallets and screw them together, than they add the middle piece in the center and screw it in, then take the 2 short pieces and then screw them into the 10-15 degree angle at the bottom and then you are done and now it is ready for use.
