How-To-Paint-Glass-Vases.jpg

Hi everyone! Do you have old vases that are lying around your home? I’d like to share with you how you can transform your glass vases just like what I did with my thrift store vases which I collected over the years into Pottery Barn inspired decor using paint and cinnamon!

Supplies

Glass Vases

Chip Brush

Shop Towel

Glass Adhering Primer

Baking Soda

Cinnamon

Chalk Mineral Paint(Warm Dark Grey and Light Gray with Soft Blue undertones)

Checking the of Glass Vases

Here are the glass vases I started with. I checked them thoroughly if there are any cracks.

Cleaning the Vases

It is best to clean the vases to remove any grease or dust preventing the adhesion of primer/paint. I cleaned mine with just water and vinegar mixture.

Applying Primer

You can pick any brands of primer you want as long as they are labed as glass adhering primers. This will ensure the maximum adhesion of your paint.

Painting

For the base coat, I mixed half a cup of baking soda and a cup of white chalk paint with the consistency of heavy buttercream icing. Then I started layering paint by dabbing warm gray chalk paint in random spots and added a little more depth by dabbing a little bit of light gray chalk paint. This gave the piece an old patina texture

Sprinking and Rubbing Cinnamon

I sprinkled cinnamon onto the finish and rubbed it to achieve a terracotta finish.

I still have no idea how long would it take for the cinnamon to wear but I really love how it ties everything together. I hope this inspires you to give your glass vases new look! And I'm sure they will be great for staging and home decor! Happy Painting friends! https://salvagedinspirations.com/how-to-paint-glass-vases/
