PVC Selfie Stick Tripod
Here is a low-cost yet workable (of course) PVC Selfie Stick Tripod. Perfect for those who don’t have a 3D printer at home and don’t want to spend money buying one from the store.

Things you’ll need:
- PVC: (S) length 20 cm, diameter 1.8 cm x 3 | (M) length 8 cm, diameter 2.5 cm x 1 | (L) length 4 cm, diameter 3.2 cm x 1
- Hemp String
- 3 Screws (just get them from the pile of screws you have at home)
- Selfie Stick
- Phone
Tools:
- Sandpaper (get the roughest one you can find)
- Drill
- Saw
- Mask
- Vacuum
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Marker
- Hot Glue Gun
!!Warning!! To keep your phone safe, don't extend your selfie stick. I tried extending it to its full length, and although it did work, I definitely do not want to risk that. And disclaimer: I do not take any responsibility for any damage caused when doing this project (Don't sue me for a broken phone!)
Cutting
Cut the PVC tubes into the dimensions mentioned before.
Drilling
For each (S) PVC tubes, drill 2 holes at the top (one hole should be bigger so that you can fit the screw in) and drill 2 holes at 3 cm away from the bottom.
For the (L) PVC tube, measure the periphery, divide by 3, mark it and drill 3 holes
Sanding
This is the most time-consuming part. (Took me 3-4 days! I almost gave up) I decided to sand the (M) tube until it fits the (L) tube because I want it to look more decent, but of course you can always skip this step and find a (XL) tube that fits the (M) easily.
My hand almost broke from sanding it with human power, so I decided to use some hot glue and make a ‘stopper’ kind of thing on the drill bit, fit it in into the (M) tube and sand it.
Screwing
Screw the 3 legs to the (L) tube with a drill.
I got this idea from the tripod lashing technique I learnt in scout when I was small. Never though those bamboos and strings would become useful one day :D
For the Hemp String
Thread it through the holes at the bottom of the (S) tubes and tie a knot that allows you to adjust the string’s length. (here comes some scouting skills!)
For the adjustable knot:
Thread the red string under the blue one. Repeat and thread the end in the loop you just made with the red string. Tug the blue string to adjust.
You can also use other knotting techniques - just type 'adjustable knots' on google.
Done!
It is also portable!
