Old PC Speaker(Altec Lansing) Restoration & Bluetooth 5.0 Upgrade
This old speaker was the first time speaker which my old man bought it for me when I was in high school
It might be already 20 years since I had it, and the mean time it's not working anymore
Manufactured by Altec Lansing within ACS-22 model, it's 2.0 Channel Speaker with 15 watts power each
There's a lot of memory within this speaker, especially when this little thing accompanies me to finish my thesis.
OK, Let's get started to bring its life
Opening the Speaker
Opening the speaker to check which part are broken
First Attempt : I'm using eucalyptus oil to remove the glue, and wait for a couple minutes (and it didn't work... LOL)
Second attempt : By using razor blade I scrape on each side of it and Voila....
Checking All Parts
I checked all the parts that might be causing the malfunctioned, and it was the amplifier.
Instead fixing the amp I'd rather replace new one with bluetooth 5.0 Amplifier module
And XY-P15W was the chosen one, since it's already had a bluetooth 5.0 and a bulit-in amplifier which is suit with the speaker requirement power
Then I prepared all the hardware I might need which are :
1. H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) to remove yellowing case (Retro Bright)
2. Switch to replace the old one which embedded with the old Amplifier
3. 12V 18650 Battery with BMS Circuit protection to power up
4. Bluetooth 5.0 Module within Built-in amplifier (XY-P15W)
5. 2" Passive Radiator for bass improvement
6. Diode Led, Zener, Resistor for Battery level Indicator
Remove Yellowing Case (Retro Bright)
I Cleaned up all the case prior to Retro Bright action :D
Then I wipe with rag until it dry
For Retro Bright I'm using 50 % H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide), It's hazardous compound and precaution needed if you want to use them
I'm using paint brush to attach H202 with the case, and put it in clear plastic bag to reduce chemical oxidizing and maximizing UV light exposure.
Let's the magic begin
I put it directly in to the sun light approximately in 6 hours
and then voila... No yellowing anymore
Although it was not as look as a brand new, but it's OK
Then I flushed it with fresh water to neutralize the chemical
Install All Part
Making a hole with dremel for passive radiator and DC switch placement
Attach 3.5mm 12v DC socket for Battery charging port
Attach Power Switch
Cover all existing hole with glue gun, to get bass/passive radiator performance
Attach the passive radiator, and I'm using T-8000 glue which is commonly used for smartphone LCD
Install 12V 18650 Battery which I've already assembled within BMS Protection
Attached Led Battery indicator at Front Cover
Install Bluetooth module 5.0 ---->> XY-P15W
Install both 15w speaker on its case
Connect all the wire
And function test prior to final assembly
Attach front cover within the case
Patch all the side with glue and make sure no air hole exist
Done
And it's done
