Ocean Cupcakes
Hello and welcome! I'm going to show you how to make a whole sea of cupcakes. These cupcakes are great for summer events- I took them to my swim team end-of-the-season party and they were a hit! This project takes about a minute per cupcake- it's that easy. So once you have your cupcakes baked and your supplies ready, let's get started!
Gathering Supplies
For this project you'll need a few supplies:
- at least one cupcake (but who can have just one :) )
- blue frosting- the kind I got had fish sprinkles-- perfect
- a butter knife
- gummi sharks, swedish fish, or any other nautical candy you might come across
Once you have these four things together, let's get frosting!
A Base Coat of Frosting
Start out holding your first cupcake. Smack a glob of frosting on the top with your butter knife. Gently. We don't want to pulverize anything yet. now smooth the frosting downward and around the top of the cupcake. As you see in the picture, your fingers may get a little frosty. Notice it doesn't have to be perfectly smooth- the surface of an ocean sure isn't.
Making Waves
Now it's time to make some waves. Take your knife and place it atop your cupcake as if you were going to slice it in half. Now, instead of moving the knife downward, draw it upward. this should create a wave like line. Now, repeat this process again. And again. And again- until your cupcake is as wavy as you would like it to be.
Adding Sea Life
Now for the fun part- adding sea life! open up your candy of choice, weather it be gummi sharks or swedish fish- and place it on top of your cupcake. It'll look right at home. Next take your sprinkles and, well, sprinkle them on top of your waves.
Celebrate!
Congratulations, my fellow bakers/nautical adventurers- you've finished! Have fun eating or sharing them- I'm sure they'll be a hit wherever you take them. Good luck, and see you next time!
