Numbers for the House - Reclaimed Style

In this project, I am painting my studio door and then attaching my house number to it.

The studio is located in front of the house, so everyone who enters the house passes through it first.

The studio also faces the street, so anyone passing by can see the house number.

The sheets from which I made the door were recycled metals and were painted in various different colors.

I got tired of seeing the door in this state and decided it was time to paint the door in a uniform color.

In the first step, I spread a plastic sheet to protect the floor from paint.

Then I taped masking tape on all the areas I didn't want to paint: the door handle, the lock area, and the surrounding metal frame.

Using a roller, I painted 2 layers (I waited an hour between each layer according to the instructions on the paint can).

I got these numbers 2 and 1 from the demolition of an old building that was slated for destruction.

They were in my possession for a long time until I finally found a good use for them.

My house number is 201, so all I was missing was the number 0.

I decided to create the number 0 on my new CNC machine, and I thought that Plexiglas would be an excellent material for this purpose.

I wanted the number 0 to match the font used to create the numbers 1 and 2 (or at least something close).

To do this, I opened the graphic software Inkscape and typed the number 201, then I went through different font types until I found the font that most closely resembled the numbers I had.

Next, I measured the height of the numbers and adjusted the height of the number 0 to match the other numbers.

I isolated the number 0 and open it with FUSION 360 software and make it 3D file.

Then in the CAM environment of the software I defined the toolpath and the work speeds and the raw material

It should be noted that this is one of my first projects on the CNC machine, and I am learning and experimenting along the way, and it's a lot of fun!

After the machine cut the number 0 (perfectly, I must say 😊) I drilled 2 small holes using my drill press.

I measured the locations of each number and attached them to the studio door using rivets.

I marked through the holes with a pencil, and then drilled the holes with an iron drill.

When drilling the holes, I lubricated the drill with WD40 from time to time, it really helps in the drilling process and also protects the drill

I intentionally left the numbers as they were and did not paint them to give a unique character and emphasize the principles of recycling and reuse.
