Hello, I am Caleb and I made some chocolate cupcakes made to look like mushroom caps. I am in the 11th grade and had to do an edible art challenge for my foods class. I had a hard time coming up with something but I finally did. I chose to make the cupcakes and fondant and make little mushroom caps. I think this goes with the criteria of the project because I decorated the cupcakes after I baked them which I for sure think is art. Anyway I hope you enjoy making these cupcakes and have fun.

Ingredients for cupcakes:

  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Ingredients for fondant:

  • 1 package of mini marshmallows
  • 1/8 cup of water
  • a bag of confectoners' sugar
  • 2 Teaspoon butter

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, olive oil, and vanilla extract until it is combined.

Step 4: Add the Wet Ingredients to Dry

Pour half of your wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl and then add half of your buttermilk and whisk gently for a few seconds. After that add the rest of your wet ingredients and buttermilk and stir together until it is combined but make sure not to overmix.

Step 5:Pour Batter Out

With a ice cream scooper, scoop out your batter and fill your cupcake liners halfway.

Step 6: Bake

Bake the cupcakes in the oven for 18-21 minutes and make sure they are done by sticking a toothpick into the middle of the cupcake and seeing if it comes out clean. Once you take them out of the oven, let the cupcakes cool.

Step 7: Melt Marshmallows

pour your bag of sugar(Not all of it) on your countertop and make a well in the middle. Then, pour your marshmallow mix onto the sugar. Grease your hands with butter and start to combine the mix and the sugar with your hands.

Now you can put your fondant on your cupcakes and enjoy.

Conclusion

Overall, I enjoyed making these cupcakes and the fondant. I think I did everything pretty well and everything tasted pretty good. I think if I could improve one thing, I definitly would say my time management. I waited a little bit too long to start the project but I am happy I finished.
