Natural Remedy Lollipops!
These lollipops are a great natural anti-nausea and sore throat soother made from ingredients that have multiple medicinal benefits. Plus lollipops are just so much more fun than syrups and cough drops!
Ginger is a great ingredient to help reduce nausea, morning sickness, and indigestion. Honey contains antioxidants and helps to reduce inflammation which makes it great for sore throats. Honey can also help to provide cough relief to children. Lastly, Mint also acts as an anti-inflammatory and tummy soother as well as helps to cool sore throats, and provide some respiratory relief.
Of course, this is just a natural home remedy to help bring some symptom relief, it by no means will cure anything. They just work to provide comfort when you aren't feeling your best!
I hope you give this Instructable and these Lollipops a try and enjoy!
Ingredients!
Makes: 14 Lollipops (Depending on the sizing.)
6 Ounces of Honey
0.5 Ounces of Fresh Ginger
0.1 Ounces of Fresh Mint Leaves (If you don't have a scale that can get this measurement, this was 25 leaves or half of the package of Mint roughly)
2 Tablespoons of Water
Measure Honey!
In a small saucepan, measure out your 6 ounces of honey.
Prep the Ginger!
Next, grab a chunk of the fresh ginger and peel away the skin. Measure out the 0.5 ounces you need for the recipe.
Prep the Ginger!
Optional - Chop the ginger you measured out for your recipe. Depending on the processor you have and how great it is. I did this to help it along a bit and not be as tough on the machine. Mine isn't a great processor and it's old though so yours may be able to handle better than mine.
Place ginger in food processor.
Prep the Mint!
Rinse off and weigh out the 0.1 ounces of mint (Or 25 good sized mint leaves) and place them in the food processor as well.
Chop It Up!
Lastly, add in the two tablespoons of water and process everything until combined and diced into small pieces as shown in the photo. Almost like a pesto!
Combine With Honey!
Pour everything from the processor into the saucepan with the honey and stir.
Place it on the stove on medium high heat.
Prep the Lollipop Sticks!
Before your honey heats up too serious, make sure that you have all your sticks prepped up and ready to go. You will want to move fast once your honey mixture hits the temperature.
I have nifty little lollipop molds you can find on Amazon here for under $12 that work great and are easy to use, but if you don't have access to those. Any flat sheet tray or surface covered with a silicone pad or wax paper will work as well.
Cook Honey Mixture!
Cook your honey mixture on medium high making sure to stir it often so the honey doesn't scorch at the bottom. I tried to include pictures at various stages. At around 215-220 degrees it will really start to bubble. This is just the moisture from the water, ginger, and mint cooking out. It is normal so don't be alarmed. Just keep stirring!
Cook the honey mixture to 300 Degrees F. Though I do pull it off the stove at around 297 Degrees because of the carry over cooking that happens, especially while the mixture sits in the pan while you are pouring it out into the shapes/molds.
Pour Out!
After getting the honey mixture to temperature from the previous step, pour it out into your trays, molds, wax paper, whatever you chose to use.
Try to do this quickly as the honey will continue to cook it could burn a little, but be careful not to burn yourself!
Let Cool!
After the lollipops have cooled and hardened, you will be able to pop them out of the molds or peel them up off your trays/wax paper.
Store!
Store these lollipops in air tight containers or individual baggies if you have them as I did. Just be sure to keep them out of moisture and these will keep for quite a while until you need them to help out with cold and flu symptoms!
Done!
Done! Now you have these wonderful little natural home remedy lollipops to use as a way to provide relief to cold and flue symptoms or nausea. They are also nice to stir into peppermint tea if you like to sip on that while sick.
