My Sesame Street Home Video Coasters
I always love that everything old can be made into a new product, like this example. Since 1986, Random House Home Video started releasing Sesame Street VHS tapes under My Sesame Street Home Video. They have always been a part of my childhood, and now, since they appear to be slightly ripped (not all the way, but in parts), I thought it'd be fun to make them into a 4-piece coaster set that any oldies but goodies fan will absolutely treasure for a lifetime!
Materials List
To make this, you will need:
- 4 ceramic tiles
- a collection of "My Sesame Street Home Video" VHS tape covers (or photocopies of the VHS tapes); I will show you how to do this in 2 different ways
- Mod Podge
- large paint brush or foam brush
- stick-on felt circles
- scissors
Prep Images
First, you want to start prepping your images for printing. You can do this step in one of 2 ways:
1) Look through your collection of the old VHS tapes and scan the images to your computer.
2) Google the same images of the VHS covers and save them
Either way, you want to find those images, edit them if necessary, and enlarge to a slightly smaller scale. Then, print out the images. You want to use a laser printer on this one. Or if you have an inkjet printer, make a copy so that the ink doesn't smear during application.
Note: I didn't use the picture in the first image that you see here, but that's just an example of how you can prep the images to print for your coasters.
Make Tiles
Now, cut out the images, and use a layer of Mod Podge to stick them on top of the ceramic tiles. Let dry, then, add another layer of Mod Podge on top to seal.
Finish Off
To finish them off, all you have to do is add a felt circle to each corner of your tile.
What's Old Is New Again!
Now, these old VHS covers from this specific category will bask in newer glory as coasters that double as great gift ideas!
These are the 4 images I chosen for my tiles:

Getting Ready To Read
