Mul-Tip-En
My name is Patrick, a college student at Southern Luzon State University, from the Philippines. We don’t put much thinking into it, but the size of the pen tip really matters. The type of activity, be it simply for jotting notes, signing, or making a caricature, would determine what point we would be using. This means that there’s an appropriate point for every activity. While it’s good to own couples of pens with different tip sizes, it could prove itself quite bothersome sometimes. For instance, it could clutter your table and impede your work. With the aforementioned, I need to design something that would combine different Ballpoint Tips into one single pen.
Inspiration
Obviously, the idea is heavily inspired by multi pen, but instead of ink colors, this design sports different Ballpoint Tip sizes (0.2, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8). Multi pen holds two or more Ink Chambers, that could be switched from one to another, whatever color you want to use. The logic is made possible by Trust Devices and Springs that are attached individually to each Ink Chamber; together they make the mechanism behind the multi pen. I come to realize that it’s also possible for a Pen Barrel to hold multiple Ballpoint Tip sizes. All I just need to do is design the pen’s body so it would be more appropriate and comfortable for daily writing (because multi pen is relatively shorter), and of course, replace the Ballpoint Tip sizes.
Significance
· It reduces clutter on your desk
· It saves space in your bag or in your pocket
· It saves money

Model Files:
The Barrel and the Cap
The Barrel is 88.36 mm long with a diameter of 19.78 mm, while the cap is 51.15 mm long with diameter of 19.78 mm, and 4.56 mm at the nose cone. While it’s possible to just purchase a multi pen with the same measurements, it’s advisable to use 3D printer instead, because the holes in which the Thrust Devices should be put are relatively bigger than the normal ones. The holes must be 6.1 mm away from each other, and 20.4 mm long. The hook, however, is 40 mm long, and is 5.28 mm away from the two holes.
Ink Chambers and Ballpoint Tips
Ink Chambers and Ballpoint Tips are available in some bookstores, and they could be purchased separately. However, if it happens that they aren’t available, you could just purchase five different pens with different tips (could be of your own desire), cut them in desirable measurement of 72.92 mm. It must be noted though that the Ink Chambers must all have the diameter of 6 mm.
Springs and Thrust Devices
The springs are available in bookstores, just make sure to buy the Springs that are of the same length and diameter as what shown in the design, which are 16 mm and 3 mm respectively. While Trust Devices are also available for purchase, it is advised to do it using 3D printer for a better fit. See the image below for the measurement:
Assemble
In this section, you just need to put the materials all together. Put the springs around the body of each thrust device, and then shove it in the ink chambers. Assign each Thrust Device to the holes in the Barrel, then put the Cap on and secure it shut. And just like that, you now have a pen with multiple Ballpoint Tips.
