Minimalist Duct Tape Wallet

IN109.JPG

I have been looking for a wallet that suits my needs for years, I've tried several different shapes and sizes but I've never really found one that I like. I finally figured that if I couldn't find one then I'd have to make it myself! My wallet would need to be thin, light weight and hold at least four credit cards and at least $25 in cash. After many failed attempts, I finally had the wallet I had desired! In this instructable, I will share with you how to make the wallet, as well as tips to get the best results possible!

What You'll Need

For this instructable, you will need the following materials:

  • Duct Tape
  • A ruler
  • Scissors
  • Velcro (I used command strips, but any velcro with adhesive on the back works great!)

Cut the Tape for the Card Pouch

in36.jpg

For the card pouch, you will need to cut the following measurements of Duct Tape:

  • 1 - - - 2.25'' piece
  • 2 - - - 3'' pieces
  • 4 - - - 6'' pieces

Start Assembling the Card Pouch

IN2222.jpg

To start putting the card pouch together you will need 2 of the 6'' pieces you cut in the last step. Lay the pieces sticky side up overlapping each other by no more than a half-inch. Then fold the piece you just made in half lengthwise so that you do not see any of the sticky sides of the tape. You may need to trim your piece to measure 3'' x 2.25. Repeat this step with your other two 6'' pieces making two separate 3'' x 2.25'' pieces. For the rest of the instructable, we will refer to these pieces as panels.

Continue Assembling the Card Pouch

For this step, you will need the two panels you made in the last step as well as the 3'' pieces you cut in the second step. To start, attach one of the 3'' pieces to the side of one of your panels, as shown in the top picture. Do the same to the other side. Once you have tape on both sides put the other panel on top and fold the tape over it, as shown in the bottom two pictures.

Finish the Card Pouch

IN102.jpg

To finish the card pouch, you will need the 2.25'' piece of tape you cut in step 2, and the piece you made in the last step. Take your 2.25'' piece of tape and tape half of it to a side on an open end of what you made in the last step, then flip it over and stick the other half of the tape to the other side so that only one end of the card pouch is open. Congratulations! you have completed the card pouch!

Cut the Tape for the Cash Pouch

For the Cash Pouch, you will need to cut the following measurements of Duct Tape:

  • 2 - - - 2.25'' piece
  • 1 - - - 5'' piece
  • 1 - - - 6'' piece (Optional, for looks)

Start Assembling the Cash Pouch

In106.jpg

To start putting the cash pouch together you will need the 5'' piece and one of the 2.25'' pieces you cut in the previous step and the card pouch. Start by sticking the 2.25'' piece to the middle of the 5'' piece, MAKE SURE that you put the sticky sides of the tape together. Now pick which side of the card pouch you want to be the front. Place the middle of the 5'' piece in the middle of the front side of the card pouch so that the sticky outsides of the tape are facing down. Then hold that in place while turning it over. Once you have turned it over, wrap the two sides of tape around and stick them, as shown in the bottom right picture.

Finish Assembling the Cash Pouch

IN105.jpg

For this step, you will need the other 2.25'' piece you cut in step 6. All you need to do is stick it around the bottom so that your cash doesn't fall out!

(Optional) Wrap the 6'' piece you cut in step 6 around the cash pouch.

Cut the Tape for the Strap

IN107.jpg

For the strap, you will need the following measurements of Duct Tape:

  • 1 - - - 5''
  • 1 - - - 1''

If you are using Command velcro strips like me, you will need to cut the tabs off.

Make the Strap

IN108.jpg

To make the strap you will need the 5'' and 1'' pieces you cut in the last step. Fold the 5'' piece in half widthwise. Tape it to the top of the back of the card pouch using the 1'' piece. Stick one side of the velcro to the strap, and the other side to the front of the cash holder. Congratulations! You have finished your wallet!!
