Make It Rain

Problem statement: Recently, I moved into a 2nd story apartment which has a wasteland of a window 'garden' outside the main bedroom. Because access is only from the bedroom window, the patch of dirt couldn't be easily watered, hence why nothing was growing. The aim of this instructable is to come up with a simple and inexpensive watering solution.

Solution: Make a watering can with 'long reach' from beverage cans, enabling a window garden to be watered..

Empty Beverage cans

Duct Tape

Remove the lid from a beverage can by filing it off with a Bastard file .You may also be able to remove the lid with a can opener, but I found this didn't work as well. But for some projects not requiring a smooth cut could be OK

Remove the bottom of the beverage can using a craft knife and some scissors.

Remove the top of another beverage can and insert it into the one with bottem of the previous can.

Tap the bottom of the can into the first can for snug fit.

Remove the bottom of this can so another can with it's top removed can be joined on.

Connect 5 beverage cans in this way.

Drill some holes into the bottom of a beverage can using a small diameter drill.

Add some water into the can and test it sprinkles well.

Add this can to the end of the previously joined cans.

Add some duct tape over the can joins. This is just to be sure they don't come apart.

Add some tape around the end of the watering can if it requiries it.

Fill up a 2-liter plastic water bottle with water. Pour the water into the watering can and use it to water your window garden.

The length of the cans enable you to reach places you wouldn't have been able to without it.

An extended digging trowel can be made by taping a length of dowel to a hand trowel. This will allow you to plant, plants from a distance which is safer than stepping out onto a window ledge.
