Magic Paper Palm Tree!
Hi! This is a fun quick project that looks like a palm tree, and grows like one too! It is very easy to make, and just as fun to see it expand like magic!
Supplies
For this project, you will only need four things almost everybody has:
3 sheets of printer paper or whatever paper that size ( You could use more than three, but it makes it really hard to cut later on)
Glue ( A glue stick would be ideal, but I only had liquid glue on hand)
Scissors
Tape (whatever kind, preferably scotch or masking tape)
Fold the Paper in Half
Crease the piece of paper in half lengthwise.
Cut in Half Along the Crease
Cut (or rip) the piece of paper on the crease you just made.
Glue the Two Pieces Together
Glue the two pieces on top of one another, letting each other overlap about an inch.
Repeat Steps 1-3
Repeat steps 1-3 with the other two sheets of paper, making a long strip of six half sheets of paper. Let it dry.
Roll It Up
Next, roll the paper up, leaving about a finger's width hole in the middle. Make sure to roll it up in a straight line!
Tape the End
Next, put a piece of tape along the seam of the paper to make sure it won't come undone.
Make Four Cuts
This is the step I mentioned earlier that would be hard with more than three sheets of paper. make four vertical cuts about half way down. If the top of the tube was mapped out like a compass, the cuts would be placed on the north, south, east, and west marks.
Peeling It
Next, peel each quadrant down as if it were a banana (You are not doing anything new, just bending down each section! make sure not to make any new tears in the paper. See pics.)
You're Finished!
To make your palm tree grow, place a finger into the top hole and pull it back up along with the paper. Make sure NOT to pull it up past its length, or it some paper will pop out and not be able to be put back in. Have fun and vote if you like this!
