Macro-Friendly BLTA

A simple and versatile keto meal at the end of the day to boost your fat content (if so you desire) or protein for the day.

32 grams of fat, 3 net carbs, and 22 grams of protein.

Ingredients used:

Bacon, avocado, tomato, your choice of bread, mayonnaise, lettuce (shredded for easier application)

Cook Your Bacon

I used thick-cut bacon because I found it cooks best in my cast iron pan. Use whatever works best (and tastes best!) for you. Assemble your bacon in a pan with no heat to limit the amount of popping grease. One sandwich typically takes about two slices of bacon. Let them cook on medium heat while you perform the next steps. However, don't forget to give them the occasional flip with a pair of tongues or a fork.

Prepare Your Fixins'

While your bacon cooks, start preparing your vegetables. As we know, a BLT is a pretty versatile sandwich. You may include onions, sprouts, maybe a fried egg. I've even heard of people using a fig spread. In my case, I kept my sandwich fairly simple and only added cheese and avocado.

Slice your tomato thinly, and if you use avocado, I advise smashing it for easier and smoother application. Once your vegetables are prepared to your liking, proceed to the next step.

(Optional) Toast Your Bread

Toasting your bread makes condiment spreading easier, and compliments the crunch you get when you apply the bacon. I put my bread into the toaster oven for just about five minutes before pulling it out.

Assemble Your Sandwich

For best results, spread your condiments (including your avocado spread if you have one) on the bottom piece of your bread.

For keto dieters: worry not about using a fancy avocado oil-based mayonnaise. If you take a look at the label of most common mayonnaise bottles, you'll see that most have fabulous macros. I used Best Foods Real Mayo.

Apply cheese if desired, then tomatoes, then the bacon in an "X" fashion, then your lettuce. Press your top bread down firmly enough to break apart the bacon into sizable pieces, but not hard enough to imprint the bread.

I used the Franz Keto Hamburger Buns for my sandwich. With 1 net carb, it seemed like such an easy substitution. You could also use their conventional sandwich bread, or Inked Keto's sandwich bread with similar -- if not identical -- macros.
