Little Horn of Gondor

In this Instructable I will show you how to make a tiny Horn of Gondor (from the Lord of the Rings).

• White polymer clay
• Aluminum foil
• Super glue
• Small silver bits (I used nail jewels)
• Clear fingernail polish (or spray paint)
• Metallic gold paint
• White paint
• Wire

Tools:

• Dremel/rotary tool
• Hand-held files
• Pliers

First you will need to make the core of the horn. Using aluminum foil, twist it into a cone shape as shown in the pictures above. Make sure the tip is very pointy. Next bend the cone around until it is the right shape, like in the pictures above.

Cover the foil core with a thin (but not too thin) layer of clay. Smooth it out well. Next, roll out a few strips of clay, and wrap them around the top of the horn, leaving the inside hollow. Smooth this out as well, and shape out what I will call the 'bell' of the horn.

Using pliers, shape thin wire into two loops. These will be for attaching the horn to a keyring or necklace. Stick the loops into the soft clay; one near the bell and another farther down, as shown above. smooth the clay back over the holes to make the loops sturdy.

Following the instructions on your clay's packaging, bake your horn in the oven. When it is done, set it aside to cool and fully harden. When it's cool, use a Dremel/rotary tool and hand files to smooth and shape the horn. Make sure it is the shape you want BEFORE painting.

Draw (in pencil) lines where the gold and white will be painted, like it is in the pictures above. Next paint the horn, with a very small and soft-bristled brush. Add multiple layers of paint.

Using small silver nail art jewels, make a pattern over the golden parts of the horn. You will probably have to use super glue and some very fine point tweezers. I added a circular jewel upside down on the tip to make it look like the mouthpiece. After you've finished with the jewels, apply a coat of clear fingernail polish (or clear spray paint) and let it dry completely. After that, it's done!
