Little Bird Wireless Hair Dryer
Which activity would you choose to have fun within the summer? Many people may go outdoors for camping, traveling, swimming. My sister likes to go swimming every day, but after that, she will go another activity in a rash, so she always complains if there's a wireless hair dryer to fit her full schedule and if there's a funny and cute hairdryer just like a toy for fun. To face this problem, I try to design an interesting wireless hairdryer for kids.
Supplies
Fusion 360
Adobe Photoshop
Market Research
I tried to do market research before design an interesting wireless hairdryer for kids. I found some hairdryers in the market, especially for kids, but they just printed some cartoon images on the hairdryer. They made them tiny, cheap and had low air volume, which lost function for drying hair--not to mention wireless.
Some other kinds of portable hair dryers are either used in cars or wireless. Our family has bought a portable hairdryer used in vehicles, but my sister blew her hair for 30 minutes and still couldn't make her hair dry. The 12V car-styling hairdryer has low energy to blow air. Then our family bought another expensive professional wireless hair dryer for my sister, which is functional, but my sister doesn't like it because it's cumbersome and looks dull. Maybe that wireless hairdryer is only designed for people in business.
Inspiration
Do you like Angry Birds or colorful cute cartoon birds? Kids always like cartoon characters from movies or comic books. I want to use the shape of a bird to design my wireless hairdryer, also design different colors for different demands for kids.
Sketches
I sketched up some concepts that the bird-shaped hairdryer standing on a battery ball is just like a real cute bird perching on a tree branch. I sketched up the section of the hairdryer to analyze how this bird-shaped machine works, including the location of the air inlet, the air outlet, motor, detection and temperature control components, guided vane, etc.
Another interesting idea is that we can change the color of the battery ball as we prefer, which is very attractive to kids and at the same time solves the problem of low battery if we carry several changeable battery balls. The succinct base connects with USB cables to afford the charge for batteries.
Modeling in Fusion 360 With Details
I modeled my project by Fusion 360. The central part included the bird-shaped body with a button controlling cold and hot wind looking like the bird's eye, air inlet, air outlet, and a switch controlling high, medium, low wind at the bottom of the body.
I modeled the handle connecting with the body of the hairdryer and the battery balls. I modeled a round pushbutton as the turn-on-off switch.
Then I modeled the charging base with concave in the upper center with a chip for connecting with the battery ball, also a USB connection for cables.
Assemble and Render
I assembled all the parts and rendered them with different shiny metal colors. The blue, red, black, pink, and teal ones are suitable for different tastes by people.
I also added a video to show the whole outfit of this little bird hairdryer. My favorite color is red!
Use Cases
The slight bird shape of the air dryer is like a toy for activities outdoors. This product is both fun, functional, and water-resistant. We can carry it during swimming for fun and use it to dry hair in cars after swimming. We can take it for travel and camping. We also can take it for painting outdoors to make the artwork dry quickly.
After all, this is an enjoyable project which can bring people more fun and convenience outdoors.
Conclusion
Overall, I tried to improve the outfit of the wireless hairdryer and make it more than a dull tool just for drying hair. I tried to create an enjoyable form for kids and bring them more joy in outdoor activities. I hope my design can be worked out by manufacturers one day.
