Laser Cut Toolbox
Goals:
- I wanted to create a ready-to-use toolbox with the main tools needed for any repair situation
- Each tool has to be easily and quickly accessible
- The toolbox must be compact
Supplies
- Laser cutter (able to cut 5mm of plywood)
- Screwdriver
- Clamps
- Sanding paper
- Plywood 5mm (5 sheets of 600 x 450 mm)
- Wood glue
- 4 Hinges
- screwdriver's rack
- Screws M5 x 10mm
- Protective pads
- Magnets: to keep the drawers closed and to hold some tools
- Vitrifier
The Measurement
Measure each tool you have and want to see inside your toolbox.
Laser Cutting
All the plans have been designed with Illustrator
5 sheets of plywood are needed for the toolbox.
Sanding
After laser cutting we need to sand all the pieces of wood to eliminate burns marks. Not the best part of the job...
Assembly
The magnets for the drawers and the screw to hold the screwdrivers rack have to be installed before gluing.
We need to glue the inside parts before, i.e. the chimney that contains the drawers.
Finish
We protect the plywood with a vitrifier in aqueous solution.
I add silicon pads on both the bottom and the top.
Result
The hammer is the handle of the toolbox: you can’t forget it!
When you grasp it, 2 latches lock the box that can’t open when you carry it.
The drawers contain supplies for a quick repair, few measuring tools (laser meter, protractor, ...) and a first aid kit.
