Jelly Fish Craft

Hanging octopi are a fun and inexpensive way to decorate any space. The process of creation is relatively simple making it the perfect rainy-day craft. There's plenty of room for customization and you can totally make these your own! Whether you decide to make these ornaments, hang them from a garland, lights, or even make a wind chime.

The inspiration behind this project was a lantern I saw hanging at my friend's birthday party. The blue paper lantern had a party ribbon strung from the bottom and slightly resembled a jellyfish. I thought something like that would look really cool in my room and be relatively easy to make. I spent a few days browsing the Internet , planning, and gathering materials. I eventually came up with the designs and began crafting.

Supplies

Most of the supplies used for the project came from craft and dollar stores making them cheap and easy to find.

For the base or "Bell" of the jelly I used small plastic snack bowls. They came in packs of five at dollar tree.

I primed and painted using both spray-on primer and acrylic paint. These can be found at any craft store Michels hobby lobby ext...

For the tentacles, I used party ribbon in various colors which I purchased from the dollar tree.

I bought googley eyes from the dollar tree.

The string used to hang the jellies came from the dollar store.

Hot glue and glue gun can be purchased at any craft store.

and the optional led light strip I chose to add can be bought at five below for 5.00 or amazon for around 12.00.

Planning

The first step to this craft is drawing out your jellyfish.

Decide on a theme or color scheme and get creative with how you want it to look.

I chose to create multiple jellies and hang them from lights.

I got creative with different themes.

I created a storm cloud, butterfly, and pompom jellyfish.

I sketched and colored my idea making it easy to reference throughout the creation process.

Priming and Painting Your Base

After sketching out my design I began priming the bowl. Having a layer of white beneath your color makes it pop and allows you to use less paint. Add your color coat and allow time for everything to dry.

Decorate!

Once your primer and color coat are dry the fun begins. You can add any accessories you choose. For my jellyfish, I choose to add a colorful pom-pom hat, as well as cute faces and things like leaves, eyes, and cotton balls. Depending on how much you add, you can deck it up with lights, glitter, fun textures, fabrics, and patterns.
