James Devlin Gym
This entry was inspired from James Devlin's Gym Webinar.
The gym, inspired by the beach gym in Venice, California, has an indoor/outdoor function. It ranges with gym materials from a kid's gym to a hard core workout, a pool, and a locker room and snack area. The gym has been adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic so it maintains social distancing and sanitation.
(I am twelve years old but have been granted parental permission)
I was able to create this design with Tinkercad
Main Body
For the building itself, I brain stormed ways for how it is shaped and the functions of it. The paths that lead off it go to work out stations. With the main building, it can easily adjust to the weather because of the gap in the roof, it also has little awnings over each station
Interior
For the interior, I wanted to make it look modern and also have that "professional look". There are four parts to the building. The very beginning is the check in room. The back half of the building is where people get ready to work out. On the left side is the bathrooms, on the right side there is the healthy vending machines and a bench. In the middle, There are the locker rooms with benches that when getting ready, they can sit on.
Locker Room With Connecting Rooms
When you enter, you will notice that the benches are 6 feet apart respecting COVID-19 restrictions. On the sides, you will see the lockers. In between the lockers are doors that lead off to other rooms.
Bathrooms & Snack Room
With the bathrooms, I connected showers and some more lockers. The showers are great for before and after working out. Underneath the sinks in the bathroom, there is storage for cleaning materials. Past the bathrooms, the lockers can also provide a little more privacy.
In the snack room, there are three vending machines that have protein bars and various drinks. In the room, there is also a bench/bed for resting after a workout.
Outside
With the outside, I wanted to give the Venice, California beach vibe and still be able to protect the equipment so I put awnings over each stations.
The stations include
- Bench press station
- A running station
- A yoga station to relax
- A kids workout station
- A biking station
Weights
For the weights station, I placed each piece of equipment where it had to go.
Kid's Station
One of the most important parts of this gym is the kid's section. I made this section because usually gyms are only meant for adults and I wanted to give the opportunity to kids to also workout and stay healthy. This part has smaller pieces of equipment to better fit smaller children.
The pieces of equipment are a weight corner, a running corner, and also a smaller yoga section.
The Pool
For those that go to the gym for recovery or even those that just want to work out, I added the pool. The pool is very beneficial because when we swim, we use muscles that we don't use just working out! The awning over it helps shade the pool and the people in it.
Running Station
For this part of the gym, I just positioned each machine where it had to go.
Rowing Machine and Bikes
In this part of the gym, you can transition from rowing to cycling to build muscles in both your legs and arms.
Yoga
This station is for relaxing and doing stretches before/after working out. There are yoga mats and also yoga balls for stretching.
Tennis and Pickle Ball Courts
While tennis and pickle ball don't seem appropriate for a gym, they can have a positive affect. For those who need to recover or who just want to learn, the courts can help them with hand-eye coordination, get better aim, and also build up leg muscles by running back and forth playing matches.
Track With Lights
The track is very good for those that are on a track team for them to train. The lights around are good for those that want to run after work when it is dark.
Field and Shed
In the middle of the gym, there is a field. This field is good training and learning how to work as a team for games. The shed can hold the balls for games.
Solar Panels
The solar panels are a key part to this gym because those are what supply the gym with electricity.
Final Product
Here are more views of the building.
Dear Mr. Devlin,
Thank you so much for this contest. I hope you like my entry. This contest was really fun to participate in and I did have a lot of fun doing it.
