James Develin Gym Model (Eco Friendly)
Hi! This is my entry for the James Devilin Make It Big contest. I've created a model that is eco friendly and can meet the covid guidlines. I hope you enjoy and if you do please give me a vote!
Making It Eco, Disabilitys, and Covid Friendly.
You might be asking how I am making my design eco friendly. For starters, I have put in solar panels to save energy, and I have created a little something called the plant nook. The plant nook is an area I designed to make the gym feel more like a big family. Every time a new member joins, the gym will suply them with a plant and pot, and you bring the pot home to decorate it and then next time you go to the gym you put it in the plant nook. I created this so that your plant can grow and get stronger as you grow and get stronger.
For people with disabilitys, all of the doors will have a button, (reachable for somone in a wheelchair) that will open the door automatically. And since there is a second floor, I have put in a elevator on the first floor that goes to the second floor, because it would be quite hard for someone in a wheelchair to go up and down the stairs.
And how am I making it covid friendly? On the checkin desk people will suply you with hand sanitizer and a mask if you don't have one. I have spaced some things six feet apart, but nothings permenant, so when covid is over you can put more in.

This is the exterior of my design, let me break down for you the gym and then the surroundings. This gym includes 4 big rooms and an outdoor patio for weight lifting. In these rooms there will be, a bathroom/shower room, a pool room, a checkin/locker area, and a basketball/yoga/plant nook area.
Now the surroundings. I have a parking lot put in for the cars, and just some shrubs and trees for scenery!
Extras: Like I said in the second slide, I have put in solar panels to save energy, but I also put in two skylights on the roof, for some nice natural lighting, and so the plant nook can get some nice sunlight.
Check In/Lockers-First Floor
Check In/Lockers-First Floor
My checkin area includes stairs to the second floor, lockers, an elevator to the second floor, and a door to the pool. I wanted to make this room nice and simple, with a good amount of room, so when covid is throught you can put in a seating area for the members, but for now the checkin place is just somewhere you go to get sanitized and ready for your workout.
Pool-First Floor
Pool-First Floor
I decided to put in a pool because pools are a huge part in rehab and if not should be. Swimming in a pool can be hard, and no fun, but you will find doing thing like swimming laps with get your all around body stronger, and boost up your endurence. Lets talk about why endurence is important. Lets say you just got hurt, and have to take a year off your game to heal and work. That means when you are ready to play again, you havent been in a game for a whole year. You might not realize it, but playing really any sport takes a lot of endurence, whether your just running up and down a court, or sprinting through the feild, you have a lot of endurance, so its something you really have to work on if you are in rehab, so you can kill it on your first game and not get immediatley wiped out in the first few minutes.
Shower Room/Bathroom-First Floor
Shower Room/Bathroom-First Floor
This shower/bathroom includes:
Two rooms, one for men and one for women, each including three sinks, 4 toilets and for the mens 2 toliets and 2 urinals, as well as 2 showers each. I also thought to put in hand blow dryers to save paper. I actally put tile down but unfortuantly for some reason it wont show up, sorry about that! I kept the color scheme pretty simple like the rest of the model, just some nice tones of blue and grey.
Basketball Court/Plant Nook-Second Floor
Basketball Court/Plant Nook-Second Floor
For the first floor I need it to be a space where you could do many things, so I decided to put in a basketball court. The reason I chose a basketball court is, while its fun having pick up games, you can also do yogo and zumba on a basketball court as well as agility workouts, running, and much more! On the sides I have put in a storage room with a plant nook on top (I explain the plant nook further on) and on the other side I have a yogo area.
Outdoor Weight Lifting
The outdoor weight lifting area is exacly how it sound. No one should waste time being out in the sunlight, especially if you live somewhere where theres not a lot of it, so I thought I would just put this in.
