Hydraulic X Men Claws
This is a wood work version of x men claws that are retractable and protrude by hydraulic action. Its metallic version can be used as self defense equipment.
Supplies
1. Small Needleless syringes x 7
2. Syringe tubes x 3
3. Popsicle sticks: (114mm x 10mm) x 24
(140mm*10mm) x 3
(150mm*18mm) x 3
4. Water, red liquid and green liquid
5. Activator holder and palm brace
6. Blade and scissors
Pick a Popsicle stick of 114mm x 10 mm and carve the round edge to resemble an animal claw. Now the result will be called "claw".
Place the claw between 2 sticks of the same dimension as the claw with their flat surface touching each other.
place the above setup (step 2 result) on the flat surface of another stick with the same dimension and then glue the side sticks bottom edge to the surface of the stick living the claw unglued. Trim the excess material away from each side.
Pick 2 sticks of the same dimension as the above ones, divide them into two longitudinally.
Pick 2 of the divisions and glue each one to 2 other whole stick’s surface aligning them with their edges . The result is called "guide sticks".
Glue the remaining two divisions to both sides of the end product of step 3 aligning them to their edges. The result is now named "slider".
- Place each guide sticks by each side of the slider and tightly hold them together.
- Place the setup on the surface of a 140mm x 10mm popsicle stick (base stick) aligning to the curved end of the surface and then glue the guide sticks (guiders) to the surface.
- Take one of the syringe and trim the thumb rest(plunger cap) to a rectangular shape to size the back end of the slider and glue to the slider living the claw free.
- Glue the barrel of the syringe to the base stick.
- Cut 5 small rectangular pieces; 2 (6mm x 4mm) and 3 (2mm x 4mm).
- Use a copper wire to create 4 tiny hooks.
- Attach a hook to the surface center of each of the 6mm x 4mm rectangular piece (i.e.; pin down the hook the glue it to the surface).
Glue the hooked pieces, one on top of the front region of the horizontal edge of the slider and the other on top of the back region of the horizontal edge of the slider. Attach a hook on the right guider horizontal edge back region.
- Attach a hook on one of the 3 (2mm x 4mm) rectangular piece surface and then glue it on the edge of the left guider and close to the front end with its 4mm sides facing the right and left side.
- Glue the second rectangular piece’s 4mm side to the side of the hooked piece at the back edge of the slider.
- The third piece 2mm side is glued very close to the back of the horizontal edge of the claw.
Using the above diagram description; take a thread or an in extensible string and tie its end to hook1, pass it around hook2, tie it to the claw horn, pass it around hook3 and lastly tie it to hook4.
This mechanism allows the claw to be retractable
We have now created a claw projector. Now repeat step 1 to 11 two more time to obtain 3 claw projectors in total.
- Arrange the claw projectors side by side with a small spacing by gluing their base to 2 parallel 150mm x 18mm stick surface as shown below. Trim away the excess edge.
- Turn it to the back and glue a stick of the same size crossing the 2 parallel sticks.
Take a copper wire and form a ring(finger fitted) shape having 2 extended legs. Turn the legs around a syringe thumb rest(plunger cap). The result is named "trigger syringe". Repeat this procedure twice.
Glue the barrel of the 3 trigger syringes to the surface of a 150mm x 18mm stick and trim the excess piece . The group of the trigger syringe is named activator.
- Attach a tube to each trigger syringe.
- Get a cup of red liquid, green liquid and water(white liquid).
- Suck each liquid using a different trigger syringe for each liquid until the barrel and the tube is filled up (avoid bubble formation).
Attach each of the trigger syringe tube (containing the liquids) to a unique claw projector syringe.
Fix the palm brace to the claw projectors. Wear it.
Finally, attach the activator to the palm brace using an S shape metal (activator holder).
