How to Remove the Pin Bones from a Steelhead or Salmon

Fish in the salmon family, which also includes trout and steelhead, have an extra row of bones that run the length of the fillet. In small fish (less than about 15 or 16 inches), you don't need to worry about the bones because they will soften when cooked and won't cause any problems. On the larger, fish, the bones must be removed before eating. This video shows you one method of getting rid of them.
