How to Use Lithium Ion Battery 3S Battery Management System (BMS)

Lithium ion battery 3S BMS | Battery Management System | BMS 3S 10A | DIY | BMS 3S 12v Charger

In this instructable, I will demonstrate how to connect the cells to the BMS using cell holders for easy testing. I will also show you how to charge the lithium-ion cells using a DC-to-DC buck boost converter module to provide a constant voltage and current.

I've made a complete video tutorial on this project so go check it out.

Things you'll need:

  1. 3S BMS
  2. 18650 lithium ion cells
  3. lithium ion cell holder

Soldering the BMS With the Lithium Ion Cell Holders

Solder the 3s BMS with the lithium ion cell holders as shown. Make sure to connect the cells properly.

Calibrating Your Constant Voltage Constant Current Power Source

Calibrate your power source to provide a constant voltage as per your BMS requirement and constant current as per cell requirement. Make sure to read the datasheet of the lithium ion cell you are using to make sure the maximum current that you can provide during its charging cycle.

Testing

Finally, test your circuit by first charging the lithium ion cells and then discharging them using an electronic load. It is very important that the BMS or the cells do not heat up during these process. I've made a complete video tutorial on this project so go check it out.
