How to Straighten Curly Hair!
Do you have tons of curls and annoying frizz to deal with? Like me, you probably want a change, so check out this guide to learn how to straighten your hair!
Supplies
To achieve the best results, you will need any kind of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, and heat protectant spray. As well as any brand of hairdryer, straightener, hair ties, and a brush
Wash Your Hair!
To ensure that your hair is easy to straighten, you will need to wash your hair. If your hair is clean, it will be much easier to use a flat iron to straighten it! When washing your hair, be sure to use lukewarm water to avoid damaging your curls and only condition the middle and ends, avoiding the roots.
Blot Your Hair With a Towel!
Dry your hair with a towel to remove excess water and to avoid soaking wet hair! Be sure not to rub your head too much because it will cause frizziness!
Brush Out All the Tangles!
When brushing your hair, begin from the ends and work your way up to your roots. Doing this will prevent breakage and other damage!
Apply Leave-in Conditioner
Apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner. This will ensure you have smooth, soft hair.
Spray Heat Protectant!
This step is crucial for the health of your hair. Apply a few generous sprays of heat protectant to ensure no damage will be done to your hair.
Plug in Straightener, Set Aside!
Plug in your straightener and set it to your needed temperature. Depending on the thickness/ health of your hair, this temperature may vary.
Dry Hair With Hairdryer!
Before you turn on the blow dryer, section your hair into two parts. This will allow you to dry all areas of your hair. While working on one part, secure the other part with clips or hair ties. Start by using a low or medium setting, that way you can control your hair as you brush through it. After your hair is dry, brush through your hair one more time to make sure you have no tangles before straightening.
Section Hair!
Section your hair and secure with clips or hair ties. Depending on the thickness of your hair, you could add more sections or less if needed.
Straighten Hair One Section at a Time!
Curly hair is naturally drier and more fragile. Because of this, you'll want to make sure to use low to medium heat (375 degrees Fahrenheit). Use your brush to grab pieces of hair from one section at a time. Use the flat iron to move down the strands right above the brush. Having the brush not only helps keep you safe from burns but also allows you to brush your hair throughout the process. If your hair is still curly, go back over it with your straightener. Repeat these steps until every section of hair is fully straightened.
Apply Hairspray!
Apply a light mist of hairspray one foot away from your head. This will ensure your hairstyle stays in place, takes away the frizz, and limits unwanted curls. Make sure not to use too much hairspray because you could end up with crunchy hair.
