How to Properly Deep Clean Your Shoes

Step-by-step instructions on how to properly deep clean your shoes the right way! Many errors are made when cleaning your shoe, so I'm going to show the safest and easiest way to go about it.

Supplies

Supplies Needed:

  1. Toothbrush
  2. Gloves
  3. Detergent
  4. Washer/Dryer
  5. Cleaner of Choice: Dish Soap
  6. Bowl of Water
  7. Paper Towels
  8. Dirty Shoes

Remove Shoelaces From Shoe

Carefully unlace the shoelaces from your shoes and set them aside. This allows for thorough cleaning of both the laces and the shoes themselves.

Apply Shoelaces and Detergent to Washer

Place the shoelaces into the washing machine and add a small amount of detergent or detergent pods.

Start Washer

Turn on the washer. By the time you’re done cleaning the shoes, the shoelaces should be finished washing.

Apply Gloves to Hands

Put on gloves to protect your skin from any irritation caused by the cleaning solution you choose to use and to keep your hands clean during the process.

Apply Dish Soap to Bowl of Water

Add a few drops of dish soap into a bowl of water and mix gently to create a soapy solution

Dip Toothbrush Into Bowl of Water With Dish Soap

Submerge the toothbrush bristles into the soapy water, ensuring it absorbs enough solution for cleaning.

Rigorously Scrub Shoe With Toothbrush

Use the toothbrush to scrub the surface of the shoes, paying special attention to stained or dirty areas. Apply a bit more pressure for stubborn stains.

Remove Shoelaces From Dryer

Once the washer cycle is complete, take the shoelaces out.

Once both the shoes and shoelaces are dry, re-lace the shoes properly and ensure they are secure.

Allow Shoes to Dry
