Enjoy an awesome breakfast with delicious homemade soft idlis
Idli is a popular breakfast which can be made by using urad dal and rice. It is a healthy and low-calorie food that you can have during your weight loss period as well.
In today’s article, we will discuss how to prepare soft idli at home.
Well, let’s start with the necessary ingredients.
Ingredients:
Urad Dal- 1 Cup
Idly Rice- 4 Cups
Fenugreek seeds (Vendhayam)- 2 Tbsp
Salt- 2 Tbsp
Aval or Poha (optional)- ½ Cup
Wash all the ingredients and soak for a minimum of 3-4 hours. It will be better if you wash the rice 3-4 times. This step will make the idlis white.
Next, grind all the soaked Fenugreek seeds and make a smooth paste.
After that add urad daal and a cup of water and make a smooth paste.
Next, grind rice and set aside. After that, mix the dal, rice, and Fenugreek seeds paste very well. Remember one thing; you need to mix these ingredients quite well.
Next, it is time to add salt. Here is a twist that is, in the winter season, add salt after fermenting, and in summer, add salt to the batter before fermenting.
Now, leave the batter for 8-12 hours for good fermentation.
After 12 hours, you can see that the batter has increased in volume. Just mix it for the last time and your batter is perfectly ready.
Now, take an idli maker and put some water in it. Keep the flame medium and brush Sesame Oil on the idli plate. After that, fill each plate gently with the idli batter. And, put all the plates inside the vessel and leave it for steam for 5-6 minutes. Make sure that you are not overcooking the idlis.
After 5-6 minutes, idlis will be properly cooked and leave those for another 5 minutes. After that, idlis will be ready to serve with sambar or chutney.
So, these are a few easy steps to follow to prepare soft idlis at home. So, what are you waiting for? Collect all the ingredients and enjoy your breakfast with soft idlis.
