How to Make the Super StarVulcan Paper Airplane

Fast, long range and simple, the Super StarVulcan is a capable and sleek dart paper airplane which can fly quickly and glide long distances. It is an improved variant of the WarVulcan and a spiritual successor its namesake, the StarVulcan.

The development of the Super StarVulcan came about as a result of the successful development of a new canard design on the Turbo MetaVulcan and AeroHunter paper airplanes. With the improvements those two designs saw over their bases, I decided to implement the new canard design on the WarVulcan as well. With the new canard layout, the WarVulcan's otherwise identical airframe proved itself to still be extremely capable and accepting of the change. Flight testing showed high speed handling and glide capability were increased with the fitting of the new canards, so publication of the new Vulcan variant was approved.

Take your paper and fold it along its length. Then pull the corners in and fold their creases into the center. Unfold the paper, then fold the edges into the creases you have made with the previous folds. After doing this, fold the corners of the paper down on each side, as shown. Pull the folds back outward on each side then restore the original airfoil folds as shown in the last photograph.

Fold the previous folds along the existing creases as shown, then pull the overhanging paper back away from the center crease. Repeat on the other side. Pull the tip of the nose back until its tips meet the apex of the diamond; then tuck the edges of the paper underneath the other layers after pulling the portion that will not fit back forward once again as shown.

Pull the tips of the paper along the trailing edges into the center fold and crease to make the fourth folds. After making the creases, unfold. Pull the blunt forward edge of the paper back to the trailing edge and crease. With this done, pull the nose forward again, stopping at the part where the forward section encounters the rear of the airfoil on each side. After doing this, undo this fold and pull the tips of this section into the crease as shown. Then pull the nose forward again.

Fold down the canards whilst keeping their leading edges aligned with the nose to maintain an angle of incidence of zero degrees. Following this, fold down the wings at the fourth folds you made previously. Align the trailing edges of the wings with that of the fuselage to keep the angle of incidence at zero degrees. After this is finished, fold the wingtips down to the fourth folds.

Apply tape to the nose above and below the canard, as well as to the dorsal LERX-wing joint. Then apply tape to the rear of the fuselage and over the wing root near the trailing edge. Once this has been done, apply tape to the ventral LERX joint and canard folds to secure them to the fuselage. This will complete your Super StarVulcan.

The Super StarVulcan flies very much the same as other Vulcan variants and most darts do. Launches should be conducted at moderate to high speeds at neutral or positive attitudes. Additional applicable surfaces include ailerons, elevators, rudders, air brakes and an "electronic warfare" tail. Enjoy!
