How to Make and Throw a Paper Airplane
Hello my name is Noah. This is my first instructable and I know it is very simple but I suppose it is not a bad first start. This paper airplane I am going to show you how to make I found it in a paper airplane book that I no longer own and can no longer recall but hence it is the best paper airplane I know for it's ability to go distances most planes can only dream of. The trick to this plane is gravity which I will explain later. For this plane gravity gives it a fantastic ability to gain acceleration oddly enough.
Bill of Materials and Tools
You will need the following materials and tools for this tutorial to make this plane.
- Ruler (Optional)
- 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch sheet of paper
Although this isn't much the real handy work is folding it.
First Two Folds
Now for the first fold you will hold the paper so it is facing you the longer way. Then fold it in half from left to right. Make sure it is as close as you can get it to about a half because the closer you get it to about half the better the paper airplane will be.
Then fold the two corners so they look like the bottom image.
the Two Middle Folds
Fold the two folds you did to make a large triangle upwards as seen in first image.
To make the next fold grab two corners to the point they both meet and are down an estimated inch below the tip of the triangle you folded in step one. It doesn't have to be an inch but if you need it use a ruler for precision.
the Origami Plane Finale
Fold the top of the triangle you made in "Step 2: The two middle folds" until it hold the previous fold we made in the last steps snug as seen in the first picture.
Fold the plane inside out as seen in the second picture.
In order to make the wings of the plane you need to do on both sides of the plane is fold the wings at an angle until it looks like the last image.
Angle and Velocity Experimentation When Throwing
Throwing this plane isn't easy. I mean it is easy you are just throwing it but to get the best throws you need to find the right angle to throw it at and the right velocity. You don't want to throw it at all up in any way. You want to throw it slightly downwards to get maximum velocity for long distance flights. This plane will pull itself upwards, that is part of it's design, but you don't want to throw it too hard. Too hard of a throw will cause this plane to dive upwards and loose speed and distance. Too light will be the near equivalent. Throwing it too far down will make it hit the ground while throwing it too high will make it do loops because the plane naturally pulls upward. This will take some trial and error.
Troubleshooting
Precision is necessary for getting this plane to work. Without good folds your plane can have problems. I would redo the plane and try try again until you get this right. This is not an easy process. Nevertheless when you get it right it is the most fun you will ever have out of all paper airplanes I have experimented with.
a Few Final Thoughts
I know this tutorial isn't perfect. Have any questions or comments related to this tutorial feel free to say them because I would love to hear them. I am open to spelling checks and any other kinds of suggestions below because after all this is my first instructable. Thanks and good day everyone and have fun!
