Casting Plaster (Stationary Holder)

In my casting plaster unit, I was given a choice to either make a paperweight, pencil holder, or a plant pot. I chose to go with this pencil holder because I thought it would be unique. This is a pencil/stationery holder, it had two spots that you put your pencils and pens. This will consist of 2 hexagon molds and 2 rectangle cores.

Keep in mind:

- Take your time, do NOT rush!

- Plaster can get into eyes!

- When using the exacto knife cut away from yourself!

- plaster dries quick!

Mold and Core Building Materials:

- A4 paper

- Glue stick

- A pencil

- A set square (or ruler)

- High-impact polystyrene sheets (thin)

- Compass

- Scissors

- Tap

- Exacto knife

Assembling and Plaster Materials:

- Plaster

- Bucket

- Water

- Spatula

- 2 Yogurt cups (for plaster and water)

1. Glue A4 paper onto the high impact polystyrene.
2. Put your compass to 2.5 inches and draw a circle.
3. After put the compass point anywhere on the circle line and draw a line through the circle.
4. Do that 6 times till you have 6 intersections in the circle.
5. Then connect all the intersections together to make a hexagon.
6. Next, draw 6 rectangles with a length of 4 inches and a width of 2.5 inches
7. Cut all the shapes out using your scissors
8. Repeat steps 1 to 5 but for step 2 the compass is at 2 inches instead of 2.5
9. After, draw 6 rectangles with a length of 4 inches and a width of 2 inches
10. Tap the hexagon together as shown in the photos above and make sure you leave no gaps.

1. Glue A4 paper onto high-impact polystyrene
2. Using the set square draw 4 rectangles with a length of 3 inches and a width if 1 inch.
3. Draw a 1 inch by 1-inch square
4. Cut everything out
5. Tap together
6. Repeat steps 1, 2, 4, and 5 but for step 1 the length is 4 1/2 inches and a width of 1 1/2 inches

1. From the bottom up, mark 1 cm on the side of your biggest hexagon
2. Mix Plaster powder with water (2 parts water, 3 parts plaster)
3. Pour the plaster till it hits the mark.
4. Leave it there and let it dry for 5 minutes.
5. Cut off using an Exacto knife the face of the smaller hexagon so that it only has its walls and no bottom
6. Place in the middle of the larger hexagon evenly.
7. Tap the sides of the smaller hexagon to the larger one holding it down
8. Pour plaster on the sides of the hexagons.
9. Put the larger rectangle in the middle of the smaller hexagon
10. Pour plaster halfway into the rectangle
11. Next, stick the smaller hexagon in and tap the sides down
12. Fill the rest of the sides.

Leave the Plaster to dry for 24 hours +

1. Using the exacto knife cut the tap holding the product together and pull of the polystyrene.
2. Carefully pull out the cores and throw them away or keep for another try.

Now you are finished and you have your final product! Make sure you be careful and leave it to dry a bit more so It fully dries.
