How to Make a Cold Smoker - Pump
Introduction : Cold Smoke Generator - Pump
This is a follow on from the initial instruction on creating a vent and door for the smoke generator.
I have decided to break the instructions into a number of key parts which might just be useful components on their own.
Part 0 - Smoker
Parts
The aim is to use a few consistent parts:
- 1 x Copper solder ring equal Tee 22mm;
- 1 x Copper solder ring reducer 15mm to 22mm;
- 1 x Copper solder ring straight coupling 22mm;
- 1 x 50mm x copper pipe 22mm;
- 1 x aquarium pump;
- 500mm x upc pipe 7mm;
- 50mm x Copper pipe 5mm;
- 1 x Copper tank coupler 22mm;
- 1 x wine cork; and
- 1m x flexible pipe 25mm.
**A gas canister or anything else that needs a door**
**A smoking chamber where the food will be smoked in**
**The upc pipe can be longer or shorter, depending where the smoke chamber needs to be**
Tools
Think this is the minimum you will need:
- 1 x drill (potentially electric);
- 1 x 30mm diameter hole saw (needs to be robust as cutting steel);
- 1 x Solder;
- 1 x Solder Torch; and
- 1 x 7mm drill bit.
Drill Pipe Hole
Using the hole saw drill the pipe hole in the canister:
- Fit the tank coupler to the canister.
Using the hole saw drill the pipe hole in the smoke chamber:
- Fit the tank coupler to the smoke chamber.
Assemble Pipe
Assemble the pipework:
- Solder the reducer to the equal tee;
- Solder the 50mm pipe to one leg of the tee;
- Create a right angle bend in the 5mm pipe;
- Pass the 5mm pipe up through the reducer and pointing away from the pipe;
- Reduce the diameter of the cork to fit the 15mm reducer;
- Drill a 5mm hole down the centre of the cork;
- Pass the cork over the 5mm pipe;
- Attach the upvc pipe to the 5mm coper pipe; and
- Attach the aquarium pump to the upvc pipe.
Smoke Chamber
Connect the pipework:
- Join the 25mm pipe to the two copper connectors.
