How to Make a Chocolate "Dump-It" Cake
This is a chocolate "Dump-It" cake because you dump all of the ingredients in a bowl at the end and can put it right in the oven.
This chocolate cake in particular is incredibly moist and goes good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This cake takes about an hour and a half to make so set aside a small part of your day or weekend if you want the perfect chocolate cake.
Supplies
Ingredients:
2 Cups Sugar
4 Ounces Unsweetened bakers chocolate
1 Stick Unsalted Butter
2 Cups All Purpose Flower
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Milk
1 Teaspoon Cider Vinegar (trust me)
2 Eggs
1 1/2 cups Semi-Sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups Sour Cream.
1 Cup water
Other:
Tube Pan
Medium Pot
Medium Bowl
Small bowl
Cup Measures
Teaspoon/Tablespoons
Microwave safe bowl
Something to Mix with
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 375° and place a baking sheet on the lowest rack, this is to catch any drips.
Butter your tube pan using a towel to draw with the butter like a crayon.
Because this cake is so moist it will stick so make sure to butter the whole pan really well.
On the Stove
In your medium pot add the sugar unsweetened chocolate, butter and water.
Melt this fully together on medium heat on your stove.
Make sure to stir occasionally so everything combines and nothing burns.
Dry Ingredients
In the medium bowl sift together your flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
"Buttermilk"
Combine your milk and vinegar together in a small bowl.
Make sure to mix this thoroughly.
Congratulations you just made homemade buttermilk.
Back to the Stove
Now that your chocolate mixture has melted and cooled slightly whisk in the milk mixture.
Before you add the eggs make sure that the mixture has cooled enough that it will not cook the eggs, you should see little steam and be able to stick your finger in without burning yourself.
Add the eggs
"Dump-It"
Combine your chocolate mixture and the dry ingredients.
Make sure NOT to over-mix, if you do your cake will end up with a rubbery texture.
Check to see if there is any of the flour mixture left at the bottom of the bowl and if there is mix it back in.
This will not be perfectly smooth so don't kill yourself trying.
Tube-Pan Time
Add the batter to the heavily greased tube pan.
If the batter is not level in the pan tap the bottom on your counter a few times and it should level out.
Baking
Put your pan into the oven and set a timer for 30-35 minutes.
Once your cake comes out and cools slightly stick a knife into the middle, if the knife comes out without any batter on it, you're good and the cake part is finished.
If your knife is not clean stick the cake back into the oven for 3-5 minute increments testing with your knife if the cake is cooked each time you take it out.
Frosting
Put your chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and microwave them for around a minute until melted. Stir it and by this point the heat of the chocolate chips will be enough to melt anything unmelted.
Add your sour cream to the chocolate and stir until fully combined.
Finishing Touches
Using a spatula smear the frosting onto the top of the cake and decorate with your fruit of choice.
For this particular cake I made a different frosting as my family doesn't love sour cream.
Congratulations, your chocolate "Dump It" cake is finished!
