Have you seen the ice scene in "fate of the furious"? when Dom flew across the frozen water in his grey, souped-up Ice Charger?...

Well I thought: That should be my next build!, so here it is, And to make it better I would add it to instructables, to show you how I did it.

OH! check out my shop! you may find it of mild interest.

Supplies

  • cardboard
  • precision knife
  • scissors
  • white glue
  • cutting surface
  • reference photos (lots of them!)
  • Circle compass

The Body Panels

So instead of doing it the way the car factory's do interior-to-exterior we will be doing it exterior-to-interior. Start by finding a clear side view of a car, In this case dom's ice charger, this method works for most models of cars. trace the side view picture on a piece of paper and transfer it to a piece of cardboard as shown above.

Side Panels?

DSCN0442.JPG

What happens when you use a side view of a car image to build your model is that the top part is always much smaller than normal because of the slant in the image. so what you must do it remake the top part but we will not worry about that now. So just cut it out as cleanly as you can. as shown in the 2nd photo above.

Build It Up!

Using a blueprint provided above, get the width of the car and start to work on the top panels. At the back, cut out a small rectangle for the trunk. Be sure to leave the middle part open.

Front Grill

DSCN0451.JPG

Cut a long strip and glue it about 4 mm from the edge of the front of the car. glue another piece of cardboard to the bottom to lock it in place.

The Fenders

DSCN0465.JPG

For those large fenders cut out four cardboard strips and cut the tips diagonally glue them above the wheel wells. It took me a while to hold them in place to dry but it worked after a while...obviously

Add the foot step also to the side. Cut a strip, score it in the middle, and glue it to the side of the body

Top Part

Now just eyeballing it cut out another top part for the car following the original. basically we are just redoing the first one to make it more defined and a bit bigger. Make two and glue them to the top of each side of the car.

Wheels

Now using the blueprint (and a compass) make eight circles and put a hole in the middle of 4 of them. Take one of the solid circle's and, with a strip of cardboard bend it around the edge of the circle.

Now for the one with the hole in it, cut a rough circle and glue it on in the (inside) of the doughnut shaped circle. now detail it with punching holes in a circle and glue another smaller circle on top within the ring of holes.

And that's it there is your wheel. make four of them, and glue them in the body of the car in the wheel wells.

Interior

First cut a rectangle that can fit in the front of the car. Next glue dials and buttons randomly on the surface. To do this I made small circles and punched holes with the compass needle. And cut a thin band of cardboard, (for the steering wheel) with a strip going across it. roll a tube of cardboard for the steering shaft.

Lastly, Cut out a simple seat, bend it, And glue it inside in the correct orientation.

The Rear Trunk

Now make a half-open box and glue it to the opening at the back for the trunk. And to make the nitro's and fuel tanks at the back roll some cardboard into a tube and make another rectangle and glue them inside. If the trunk is to deep and they sit to low, put under them some cardboard sheets. I also glued a cardboard roll at an angle for the exhaust. Wrap a loop of wire around the rectangle.

The Small Things...

Now near the rear wheel well insert a cardboard roll for the exhaust (a lot of exhaust's?) And Also cut out some small cardboard circles for the rear lights. Glue a strip of cardboard at the back for the spoiler. lastly around the windows punch some holes for the rivets,

And to replicate some bullet holes, punch holes at a angle with a barbecue skewer.

And remember cardboard is not perfect and you can't replicate the car perfectly just do your best, And look at plenty! of reference images of the car.

DONE!

And now is the long awaited moment where you pick it up and survey you work.I think that Dom himself! would be proud of this car...IDK

Whatever the case that's it! see you in my next Instructable and happy Cardboarding!
