How to Make a Bath Bomb
This instruction set will guide you through each step of making DIY bath bombs!
Gather Your Ingredients
In order to make your bath bombs you will need to use:
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup Citric Acid
- 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup Corn Starch
- 2 1/2 tablespoons Almond Oil
- 3/4 tablespoons Water
- 2 teaspoons Essential Oils (optional)
- Liquid food coloring (optional)
- Mixing bowls
- Mixing spoons
- Mold (Silicone, Plastic, or Stainless Steel)
Combine Dry Ingredients
Combine and mix 1 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of corn starch, 1/2 cup of epsom salt, and 1/2 cup of citric acid in a large bowl.
Combine Wet Ingredients
Combine and mix 2 1/2 tablespoons of almond oil, 3/4 tablespoons of water, and 2 teaspoons of essential oils (optional) in another bowl.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Slowly pour your wet ingredients into your dry ingredients and mix together in a large bowl. TIP: If added too quickly, the mixture will be clumpy.
Separate Mixtures Into Different Bowls
Separate combined mixture into different bowls in order to create different colors.
Add Food Coloring and Mix
Add 4-5 drops of liquid food coloring to each bowl according to the bath bomb design you have chosen. Mix thoroughly. We chose to layer our bath bombs with purple, green, orange, and pink, therefore, we needed four mixing bowls.
TIP: Mixing the food coloring with your hands can be more effective than using a spoon.
Mold Bath Bombs
Pack mixture tightly into mold once you have achieved desired color. You can make your bath bomb a single color or stack your colors to create a colored pattern. For example, we layered our purple and pink by packing the pink mixture in tightly half way through the mold, then packed the purple mixture tightly on top.
You can use either silicone, plastic, or stainless steel molds.
Remove From Mold
Remove bath bomb from mold and place on parchment paper. The Bath Bombs typically dry after about 15 minutes.
TIP: Make sure the bath bomb is dry before you remove from mold, otherwise it will crumble.
Let Dry 24 Hours
Place bath bombs to the side and allow to dry 24 hours before using.
TIP: If mixture begins to rise (the bath bomb will look puffy), then place the mold in freezer.
Place in Bath and Enjoy!
Once completely dry, your bath bombs are ready to be used! This recipe will yield 4-6 bath bombs. Soak in bath for 20 minutes!
