How to Make Working SCARLET SPIDER Web Shooter in Simple Way
Hi Readers in this instructable let's make this Fully functional Scarlet spiderman web shooter that slings thread web.
If you are looking for a web shooter at a very affordable price that is available nowhere else this is the best one you should definitely give it a try, As per my calculations the overall build cost from tip to toe for this web-slinger is under 25$
Yes! You heard it right there are lots of web slingers available online that go up for sale for 10x the above price, I could say this is the best bang for your buck.
Don't have a 3d printer?
No worries you can just download the file and use any local/Online 3d printing service provides to get the 3d print work done and believe me it won't cost you much.
This is an awesome cosplay to try out, a wonderful Halloween idea for Halloween, and the best gift idea for Christmas idea and new year for cosplay lovers.
One of the most amazing things about this web-slinger is, It does not use any springs or magnets for its work But it uses Elastic bands.
It has many advantages compared to the normal spring or magnet web shooters, and most importantly this functions exactly the same as those expensive web shooters but it consumes only a few % of the money!
Now let us see a simple way that you could follow to have your own scarlet spider web shooter.
Supplies
Most of the materials apart from 3d printed parts are available in and around your home, Here is the list of materials that you need to make this
- 3D printer with PLA filament
- Template(already given above) more on this later
- Silver and grey color paint
- Paintbrush
- Super gluer and hot glue
- Velcro strips
- A small grocery bag made from Jute( This holds good for wrist band)
- Elastic band
- Thread
- Scissors
Preparing Model for 3D Printing
To begin with 3d printing you can download this Scarlet spider webslinger model
Once you have the files, open any slicing software on your computer, I suggest using Ultimaker Cura to slice this design as it is very easy even for a beginner to us this software
If you Don't have Ultimaker Cura on your computer you can get it from here https://ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura
Open Cura and just import designs one by one(altogether if you are well versed!)
The downloaded design file for this web-slinger has 5 main parts that should be printed
If you are making only one web-slinger you need only 6 side cans if its 2 web slingers print 12 side cans
1) Main body - this part needs both adhesion and supports
2) Side cans( 6 pieces for one web-slinger)- only needs adhesion
3) Slinger with thread slot - Only needs adhesion
4)Top can red and yellow I used red and yellow PLA filaments to print them as I had filaments of red and yellow color
If you don't have these colors you can print them in black and later paint them with red/ yellow colors
ADHESION - Base of the 3d printing part that needs to be printed sticks firmly to the printing mat to avoid any printing failure due to lack of proper base adherence.
SUPPORTS - Provides temporary support to the hanging parts.
You can use images as references so that there is 0% room for confusion!
3D Printing
As i said earlier of you don't have a 3d printer you can get the print done by any local/ online 3d printing service provider, This won't cost you much and the print time is also not very high.
To get an idea of the parts that are being printed I have added images of all the parts to show how they looks at the time of printing.
Once you have your 3d printed parts we can start to post process them, not all the parts need post process but only for the Main body we need to work on a few basic cleaning process like removing supports
Finishing the Printed Parts
- Only the main body uses supports at the time of print, hence only that part needs some basic cleaning
- Just remove the supports as shown in the images
- Now to give it a final touch you can use silver color paint
- I have printed 6 pieces of Cannister or side tubes in other words and all 6 of them should be painted with silver entirely
- Tip of these silver canisters are now painted with gold for more appealing looks
- This may require some extra care because the paint job matters the most here!!
Preparing the Wrist Band for All Size Wrists
- I have given a template that should match everyone's wrist no matter what your age is
- Cut the strips from the jute bag that matches the dimensions of the template
- Fold 0.5cm from corners as in the image, and make it intact using super glue
- Just add a drop of superglue to the prefold edges, rub on the edges from the back side of super glue
- Just make a curve by folding the edges as in the image and add a strip of veclro to the ends
- End of the process you'll have a wrist band, and you can already see that the band is ready to fit any wrist
Adding Elastic Band to Main Part
Elastic band powers these web-shooters, and you only need one of them!
It's very easy to add bands to the main web shooter body
Just follow the above visuals to add elastic bands if you are not following the text instructions
After this step you can add side top cans, Just add a drop of super glue to the main body and add these
Note: You can only add side top cans only after adding elastic bands to the main body
Assembling Everything in the Wristband
Now as we have all the 3d printed parts ready, we just need to put them on the wristband
For this purpose, we are using a combination of hot glue and super glue wherever necessary
I recommend using hot glue for the purpose of sticking as they provide good strength
You can use the number of side cans as per the size of your wrist, in my case only 5 of them were sufficient
Note: Larger the size of the wrist less the number of side cans required!
There is no problem if you add 6 cans to the bands but I think that does not give the web-slinger the desired look!
Testing Out Scarlet Spider Web Shooter
We have almost come to an end now, only thing leftover now is the web slinger
From the web-slinger 3d printed part, there is already a hole, insert thread to the hole and you are ready to go
Since I am a fan of this web shooter I have made 2 of them and its really fun to use these slingers
How to use these?
The logic is very easy when you insert the web slinger part to the slot in the main body and push back wars there is the creation of stored elastic energy on the elastic band
When released these energies is enough to propel the slinger to a good distance and the thread hanging on the side of the slinger gives it the look of a spiderman web
If you still could not make out how to use them there is a video that shows the same, Check those
