How to Make Tassels
This is a great project if you want to add flare to anything! You can make tassels from fabric, paper, leather, yarn, rope, or string. Really the options are endless.
In this Instructable I'll show you how to make one out of string. Make sure to check out the video so you'll get the full grasp of the tutorial.
Supplies
- String
Really the material you want your tassel to be made out of
- scissors
- something to wrap the string around
- cardboard
- boxes
- fingers
- cards
Step 1: Choose Your Wrapping Medium
This is important because this will affect how long your tassels will be. For this example I used two of my fingers.
You can use a few different things such as cardboard, credit cards, or even boxes.
Step 2: Begin Wrapping Your String Around Your Medium
Hold your string in place and begin wrapping it around the item you chose.
Step 3: Secure the Loop With a Knot in the Middle
Take your loop off of your wrapping medium and use a new piece of thread to tie a knot. Make sure this is nice and tight as these are the threads that are going to be used to attach it to things.
Step 4: Take a New Thread and Wrap Around the Base
Take a new piece of thread and wrap it around the loop close to the first string. Make sure that it wraps around all of the loop pieces.
Wrap and tie this several times.
Cut off the excess thread when its secured.
Step 5: Cut Open the Loop
Now that the loop(s) have the base and is secure. Cut open the bottom of the loop to create a tassel.
FINISHED!
Use your newly created tassels to for any purpose! Use for bookmarks, pillows, and jewelry! The possibilities are endless!
