How to make roller stand from Treadmill | Metalwork

When working with a drill press with long materials you must support the material at the other end.
I was looking for a simple and fast way to create a roller stand that would serve me for this purpose and possibly in the future for additional tools like band saw.

I found an old Treadmill lying around, I immediately
realized that's what I needed, dismantled the two rollers of the machine!!!

In a garage recycling bin, I found a large brake drum, it's
heavy and will serve as a good base for the stand.

and I found two square profiles that fits together pretty well.

That was the (great) starting point for this project :)

Planning

Before I started building, I drew some general sketches.
I had few ideas on how to make the device, in the end I chose the fastest and simplest way With the materials I have.

Materials

I didn't take pictures of the disassembly of the Treadmill, But usually it's like in drawings.

Materials I used:
Old treadmill.

Brake drum.

Square profiles: 30x30x2 mm / 25x25x2 mm

Bolt and Nut.

Electrodes for castings.

Paint.

Roller Fixtures

I made 2 flat irons and measure the area for drilling.

then drilled holes in them.

Weld the flat metal to the profile 25x25.

Weld

in the center of the 25x25 profile weld another one , At a 90-degree angle.

For the hole in the center of the drum, I adjusted an iron circle.
In order for the drum not to crack in welding, electrodes suitable for iron castings must be used.

(or connect the profile to the drum with screws)

i weld the circle with the drum face down This is how the circle is on the same plane as the drum, flat and nice.

Lock Mechanism

In the big profile (30x30) I drilled a hole 20 centimeters from the top, insert bolt with the nut on it and weld the nut to the profile.

The bolt will help lock the device at the desired height by pressuring the profile.

To the top of the screw, I welded out a large nut that would serve as a large handle for opening and closing.

Marks the Center

Weld the 30x30 profile in the center of the drum.

Make sure he's at a 90-degree angle.

Cleaning Before Paint

I used an wire cup brush on angle grinder, and a lot of protective equipment :)

Work with extra Caution ! might throw small needles from the brush.

Masking & Painting

Masking the roller and start paint.

Final Result.

I'm really pleased with the end result, And also from the fact that it was quite simple to make.

Hope you find this guide useful.

if there are any questions or comments I'd love to hear.
Thank you :)
