How to Make No Sew Fleece Hats for Kids

These are my instructions for making no sew fleece hats for kids. The hats I made were donated to a local children's hospital for pediatric cancer patients, who were undergoing chemotherapy. These hats are very easy to make and a lot of fun too!

Supplies

Fleece more than 13 by 24 inches, painters tape, fabric scissors, a ruler, an L square that's 13 by 24, a chalk marker, and pencil.

Step 1: Draw a Rectangle

Cut out a piece of cardboard that is 13 by 24 inches. This will be your template. You can also use an L square that is at least 13 x 24 inches. Use the template to trace onto the fleece with a chalk marker or use the L square to draw a rectangle on the fleece that's 13 x 24 inches.

Step 2: Cut and Clean

After drawing out lines with the chalk marker, cut out the rectangle. then fold in so it looks like a square. Trim uneven edges until straight.

Step 3: Measure

After trimming the edges, place fold at top. Using a ruler, measure 2 inches up on both ends, and put a strip of painters tape 2" up across the bottom. Using a pencil, mark 3/4" intervals on the tape all the way across. This is your cutting guide. With your scissors, make cuts that are 2" long and 3/4" apart as marked on the painter's tape. Don't cut through the painter's tape. Cut off the last 2 strips on right.

Step 4: Tie Knots

Tie square knots all the way up the fringes.Once the knots are complete, stretch them out gently.

Step 5: Make the Top Closure/pom Pom

Place fold on right side. Place a strip of painter's tape in line with the last knot (2" up from the bottom) and mark off 1/2" intervals on the tape. Cut fringes up to the tape in 1/2' in intervals as marked. Cut out a strip of fleece fabric that's about 1/2 an inch in width and 6 inches in length. Gather up the fringes and wrap the strip of fabric around the fringe you just cut and then tie it then double knot it. This creates your pom pom and closes up the top of the hat. Trim ends to be the same length as the rest of the fringe.

Enjoy!
