How to Fix a Cord Chewed by Your Pet
Repairing a chewed power cord is not very difficult. Here is a easy fix with minimum tool and very primary skills.
Supplies
Things you will need
- Utility Knife
- Scissors
- Heat shrink tubing
- Electrical tape
- Lighter
Cut the Chewed Part
Cut the chewed section using a scissors or wire cutter
Understand the Difference Between the Two Wires.
See the difference between the two wires. One wire has writing on it but the other doesn't.
Prepare the Wire Ends
1. Separate the wires about 3.5 inches / 9 cm.
2. Hold the two opposite wires next to each other.
3. Cut the wires equally about 1.5inches / 4cm.
4. Strip about 1inch / 2.5cm off the ends of the both wires, using a utility knife or a wire stripper.
5. Twist the ends of the each wire.
6. Cut two pieces of heatshrink tube, about 1.5inches / 4cm wide.
7. Slip a heat shrink tube over the both wires.
Connect the Wires
1. Twist the two identical wires together like this.
2. make sure to wrap at least 3 turns around each wire, and the wraps shall be tight with no gaps.
3. Repeat the procedure with the other two wire too.
4. Slide the heat shrink tube over the area of your repair.
5. Heat the tube gently using a lighter or a heat gun.
6. Be very careful to avoid burning the tube and the wire.
7. repaired area should be well covered.
Fishing the Repaired Area
wrap a electrical tape around the area.
Repaired area should be neat.
Test the Cord
Test the cord by plugging it into an electrical outlet.
