IMG_3409.JPG

Hi there have you tried to braid your or someone else's hair but you just can’t get the hang of it?

Well if so I have a solution for you, the pull through braid. Even if you do know how to braid this can be a fun new look to try out! The pull through braid is really easy and does not take that long to do. You don’t even have to know how to braid, it's that simple. I like doing my hair because I think it a fun way to express my style and personality. The pull through braid works best on medium to long hair. My favorite part about trying new styles is that you can show them off to your friends, family, coworkers etc. It’s always fun to see all their different reactions. The pull through braid will make your hair look thick and full along with it will keep your hair out of your face and it looks so pretty. Follow the steps below and find out how to do the pull through braid.

Supplies

-Hair ( preferably long or medium length )

-Hair Brush/brushes of your choice

-Elastics of your choice ( 10-12 for long hair and 8-10 for medium hair) picture under step :2 of the ones I use
-Big hair clip

-Hair spray ( optional )

- Accessories of your choice ( optional )

-Hair products if you use any (optional )

Tips and Tricks

1.The pull through braid is easiest to do with dry hair. It will work with wet hair but it is a lot harder.

2.If your arms get sore take a break and shake them out

3.Don’t use a rubber band as a hair elastic. This can be very painful to take out and does not hold your hair that well.

4.Make sure you have time to try this. It takes longer because you are still learning how to do it.

5.I would recommend that you tighten each elastic after putting it in. This will make the braid look better and give it a better hold.

6.Remember this may take a few tries before you get it right.

7.If you have wavy or curly hair you don’t have to flatiron or straighten your hair but you can if you want.

8.I would also recommend not using the painful clear tiny hair elastics. They are not the best for this hairstyle. 9.This hairstyle can be done with a dry or wet hand. It depends on what you typically do.

10.I personally would also have a toothed comb handy.

Before we start make sure you have all the materials you need nearby for when you need them.

Make sure your hair is brushed and has no knots in it. If you use any hair products now would be the time to put them in.

Starting the Pull Through Braid

First you are going to do a half up half down ponytail. To do this gather all the hair from above the top of your ears. Smooth out and put it into a ponytail and secure it to the back upper half or your head with an elastic . Take the ponytail and clip or flip it up out of the way on the top of your head.

Another Ponytail

Next gather the hair from the tip to the bottom of your ears. Center upwards on the back of your head right below the first ponytail you made. Make sure that the hair that did not go in the first ponytail gets added to this one. Once again secure the hair with an elastic. It should look like the ones in the picture.

Pull Through

Third unclip the first ponytail you did and split it into two sections. Put the second ponytail in the middle between both of the 2 sections from the first ponytail. Next grab the 2 sections from the first ponytail and pull them underneath the second ponytail then bring both of the two sections together to make one ponytail and tightly secure with an elastic. Make sure that the second ponytail is still in the middle. You have just created the first pull through! Make another one once you are done.

Adding More Hair

After you are done making your first pull through you are going to add in more hair to one of the existing ponytails. Before we do that you will need to take the ponytail that is on the top and clip it up so it is out of the way. Once you have clipped the top ponytail up you are going to gather about an inch of hair from below the bottom of your ear lobe from both sides of your head. Make sure you grab an even amount from both sides. Finally add this hair into the bottom ponytail that you did not clip up and tie an elastic around it. You should still only have two ponytails.

Another Pull Through

Fifth unclip the top ponytail and split it into two sections. Put the second ponytail in the middle between both of the 2 sections from the first ponytail. Next grab the 2 sections from the first ponytail and pull them underneath the second ponytail then bring both of the two sections together to make one ponytail and put in a hair elastic . Make sure that the second ponytail is still in the middle. You have just created your second pull through!

Adding the Last Bit of Hair

As soon as you are done making your second pull through you are going to add in the last bit of hair. Take the ponytail that is on the top and once again clip it up out of the way. Grab the remaining hair and secure with a hair elastic to the bottom ponytail.

Lots of Pull Throughs

Then once you are done adding in the last bit of hair you are just going to continue to make pull throughs all the way to the bottom of your hair. Remember this will take time, don't rush it and take hand/arm breaks if needed. If you are still not completely sure how to do the pull through you can look back on step six and four .Once you reach the bottom of your hair take both tails and secure them together with a hair elastic.

Pancaking Your Braid

Then once the elastic is in you are going to pancake your hair. What is pancaking? Pancaking is a techn where you pull on each loop in your braid to make it look wider and fuller. How to pancake your hair. The trick is to gently pull apart each section of the braid with your thumb and index finger. I personally like to make it looser at the top and tighter at the bottom as shown in the picture.

Accessorize

Your pull through braid is almost done. All you have to do is accessorize!!! This is one of my favorite parts. Fun things to add in are clips, scrunchies, bows and whatever else you may like the possibilities are endless. Don’t be afraid to let your style and personality show with accessorize this is how you can make the pull through braid your own .
