How to Create a DIY Rope Mirror | $20 Makeover
Hi Instructables! Today, I am sharing with you a very easy mirror re-do. This project was inspired by a $529 Bassett Mirror Company Palimar Wall Mirror with Sisal Rope and the catch is that this whole project cost only around $20.
Supplies
Here are the tools/supplies I've used. The baseball mirror cost $11 in our local thrift store while the sisal rope was bought for $4 in a garage sale.
- Baseball Mirror
- Sisal Rope
- Scissors
- Craft Knife
- Glue Gun & Glue
- Blade Scraper Tool
- Paint Brush
- Chocolate Chalk Mineral Paint
Removing the Mirror Stitching
To prepare the mirror, remove the stitching off the baseball mirror to give it a much plainer surface.
Painting the Mirror Frame
It is a great idea to use paint the base with a color that will complement the sisal rope. In this project, I've chosen a chocolate color paint just in case there are any tiny gaps while attaching the rope. This will give a natural and organic look.
Clean the Mirror
The leftover paints in the mirror were scraped off with a scrapper tool. It scrapes off the paint without scratching the mirror by holding the blade at a 15-20 degree angle.
Gluing the Rope
Since the glue dries quickly, it is best to work in sections while gluing the rope. In order to press the rope really well, I used a craft stick, which prevented me from touching the hot glue.
Covering the Whole Frame With Rope
Using a bead of glue, I joined the ends by cutting them straight and butting them up against each other. My goal was to cover the entire mirror by gluing each rope piece directly against the last.
And Here Is the Finished Look!
It looks absolutely stunning! Doesn't look like a $20 mirror right? Perfect home decor to match any coastal or farmhouse room design! I hope you enjoyed this DIY Rope Mirror tutorial.
