How to cook a New York Inspired Hot Dog

The key word is inspired, so please don’t get angry at me in the comments.

This Hot Dog has bacon, beautifully caramelised onions with tomato paste mixture... and no ketchup.

To Start Slice One Onion.

Next light a chimney of charcoal, I’m using Clean Heat Charcoal.

Pan a cast iron pan over the charcoal and place slices of bacon into the pan.

Cook until they are nice and crispy.

Remove from the pan, let them cool and chop into small pieces.

Next, Move the Pan Off the Direct Charcoal.

The pan is nice and hot and the way we want to cook the onions is hot a the start and for the heat to slowly ease.

Some butter to the pan and then the sliced onions.

Quickly mix into the onion.

Cook the onion until they start to become soft and sticky.

To add each flavour, add one tablespoon of taste paste.

Cook for a couple more minutes until you have caramelised onions that are soft but still hold their shape.

Remove the onions.

This should take about 10 minutes.

Don’t forget to toast your buns.

Place the hot dogs in the buns and top with the bacon.

Followed by the caramelised onions and to finish it off yellow mustard.

This hot dog has a great combination of flavour and the onion with the tomato paste takes it to the next level.
